Sean Dove's January 6th Presentation

BIO ON SEAN DOVE  - Senior at Coastal Carolina University

Sean Dove is a graduate of Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington, New Jersey, Warren County, where he grew up.   During high school he became a certified scuba diver and attended the US Coast Guard Academy's AIM program. He was a Co-Captain of the high school Varsity Soccer Team, and was selected MVP on the Varsity Tennis Team. 

Since Sean was a young child, a love for the marine environment grew from whale watching with his parents,  on board the Dolphin Fleet of Provincetown, Mass. with scientists including some from the Center for Coastal Studies.  He developed a passion to protect the marine environment and later became interested in the role politics plays in policy and budget allocations which protect and preserve these fragile habitats. He chose to combine studies in politics and marine science in college.

In 2010, he was accepted by Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina.   He was invited to participate in CCU's Cinoquest Leadership Conference which included a beach clean up community service project.  Since his college freshman year, Sean has played soccer on CCU's Men's Soccer Club. He is the clubs current Co-President. Now in his senior year, Sean is a Dean's list student  completing a BA degree in Political Science with a minor in Marine Science. Sean is an active member of  the honor society, Sigma Alpha Pi,  which is the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Sean is here today to share his International experience during a Study Abroad semester in Ecuador attending GAIAS, the Galapagos Academic Institute for the Arts and Sciences. He conducted field studies in the rainforest, and in marine and coastal areas of Ecuador. As part of his studies, Sean completed 45 scuba dives, most among the Galapagos Islands; often practicing Marine Science Techniques.  He received his Advanced Diver's certification and Nitrox certification. A research paper, Sean started at GAIAS, is being considered for possible publication through Dr. Pamela Martin; a CCU Professor and accomplished writer. Sean is a recipient of two CCU's Deans scholarships recognizing his academics and leadership. The National Garden Club Inc. selected Sean as a national scholarship winner for both his Junior and Senior years. Sean received a  $200 Educational Grant from the Washington Rotary.

After graduation in June,  Sean will seek employment until January, 2015,  when he plans to start grad school in  environmental/ natural resource policy. Sean is starting the process of selecting a grad school and will be seeking scholarships for his advanced education.
