“Rotary Books for the World” is a cooperative effort of participating Rotary Clubs in the USA, Africa, Asia, and Central and South America.  Its primary goal is to provide literacy materials where little to no materials are available from either governmental agencies, NGO’s, or private organizations.
It takes educational materials, textbooks, library books, school supplies, etc which would be discarded in landfills and sends them to Rotarians in developing countries to be distributed where the need is greatest.  In 2014-12 Books for the World in partnership with Rotarians Around the World shipped over 9.6 million pounds of books over 245 containers loaded.  Administered by the Second Wind Foundation.
There are other book collection and transfer operations in Rotary and as independent NGOs that handle a large amount of book donated from the developed countries to the developing countries of the world.  This translocation of education material is making a large difference in the ability to educate the youth of our developing world.
