As in years past, the Pasadena Rotary Club  sponsored the annual Dictionary Gift Project of giving every 3rd grade student in PISD a new Student’s Dictionary.  Members form teams and call on each of the District’s 36 Elementary schools.  The Club has participated in this worthy project for over 4 years giving away nearly 25,000 dictionaries.  The Team that called on Sparks Elementary was made up of Rotarians Paul Leteff, Pat Abrams and Bill Welch.  They were assisted by volunteers Councilman Bruce Leamon, Former Councilwoman Jackie Welch, Pasadena Code Enforcement Officer Yancy Teel, Deputy Fire Marshal Millken, teachers and staff from Sparks, and Deputy Fire Marshal Ramon Coven and Accelerant Detection dog “Baron”.

Baron is an 18 month old German Short Hair Pointer that lives with his trainer Fire Marshal Coven.    He is a big friendly dog that is trained to detect any illegal substances that may have been used to start a fire.  The students were happy to receive the dictionaries and seemed eager to get to use them.
