Rotary News Today

February is Rotary Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month
Of the 60 million people displaced by armed conflict or persecution, 90% are civilians. Half of those civilians are children. That’s millions of reasons why Rotary is so engaged in service projects, fellowships and other Rotary-sponsored campaigns in pursuit of peace in our world.

We train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict. We aid refugees who have fled dangerous areas. Rotarians also address the underlying structural causes of conflict by relieving millions of people suffering from poverty, inequality, ethnic tensions, lack of access to education and unequal distribution of resources.

In yet another program to achieve worldwide peace, up to 100 Rotary Peace Fellows are selected to attend Rotary Peace Centers to participate in master's degree programs at one of the partner universities. Rotary Peace Fellows study subjects related to the root causes of conflict and explore innovative solutions that address real-world needs. There are more than 1,000 peace fellowship alumni are working in over 100 countries.

Invite others to join Rotary and help spread peace around the world.

The Salvation Army
On behalf of The Salvation Army we would like to sincerely thank you for your amazing support of the 2019 Christmas Kettle Campaign. With the dedication and help from the Rotary Club of Downtown London, we were able to provide 4,431 food hampers to local families this past Christmas and 6,758 children received a bag of toys. The funds that are raised at the kettles help make a difference to the thousands of families and individuals in our community that look to us for help during Christmas and throughout the year. We are so excited to share with you that we exceeded our goal of $550,000, reaching a grand total of $637,338.30…a new record for London!!

We could not have done it without your help! Our calculations indicate that approximately $3,430.93 was raised at the kettle locations that were staffed by your volunteer group over the course of the kettle campaign. We are extremely thankful for all of your hard work and commitment to supporting The Salvation Army. Thank you once again for helping us help others!
