Terry Stracke came and spoke at our club on Thursday Sept 22, 2011. She spoke to us about her work with Tools 4 Life, a non-profit organization that goes into detention centers and teaches life skills to teen boys that have been incarcerated.
She told us how the program, which has only been in existence for a
year, has helped 29 out of 30 boys to not repeat their same mistakes.
These boys were selected by the administrators of the Harris County
Leadership Academy as the most likely to benefit from the program. The
program is an 8 week program designed to help these young men see how
they can take charge of their lives. A quote from their website says it all,
“Our purpose is not to SCARE, but to PREPARE teens. Today's teenagers face tough issues that call for a "shoot it straight" approach. Knowledge is power!”
Knowledge is power, with the correct knowledge they can change their world and make a difference in their neighborhoods.
