Is your idea of a great summer weekend 1) visiting McCall and enjoying the lake and all the outdoor activities? 2) taking part in a Rotary fundraising activity which supports youth scholarships and local charities? and 3) having a super time with other Rotarians while earning District 5400 bragging rights for a year? Well, if you answered yes to those questions, then McCall on August 24th - the date of McCall Rotary’s McCall Ball - is where you want to be!
McCall Rotary Club is entering into its third year of McCall Ball, an event with a proven track record on delivering fun, frolic, and funding for good causes.
What is McCall Ball? Some say it is ‘softball for couch potatoes’. Others say it is ‘a cool game of skill’. We say it is ‘a fun game for the whole family with an opportunity to win lots of prizes.’ The rules are pretty simple. Lob the mush ball to your own teammate (see photo of our own governor, Jennifer Deroin batting in last year’s tournament). Hit it with a plastic bat into a volleyball-sized field. Score a run if your three opponents don’t catch it in the air. No bases! Therefore, no running bases - and no pulled muscles!
This year we will have three tournaments! A Youth Tournament (ages 6 to 12) in the morning, a Rotary Tournament over lunch hour, and an Open Championship beginning at 3pm. The Rotary tournament is strictly for Rotarians and their families and for bragging rights. No sponsor prizes (those go to the other two tournaments). The top team in the 8-team Rotary tournament gets a really nifty Rotary plaque to display to other envious Rotarians in the District. Prizes and plaques will be awarded to winners in the Youth and Open tournaments. Rotarians (and their families) are also eligible to play in the other tournaments but, watch out, there are some fierce competitors in the Open!
Be the first Rotary team to go home with the championship plaque! Please contact McCall Ball Director, Craig Vroom, at 719 648-8463 to sign up for the Rotary tournament or if you have questions. Entry fee for a Rotarian team is $45. To sign up for the Youth or Open tournament, go on-line to City of McCall, Parks and Recreation web site. Entry fees for those tournaments are: Youth: $30, Open: $45. Each team is guaranteed at least three games (which take about 20 minutes each to play). We hope to see you in McCall August 24th!
