As we approach the Labor Day weekend and enjoy the last bits of summer, I thought it appropriate to let Rotarians in our District know of the efforts being made through Rotary to assist those displaced and at risk due to Hurricane Harvey. Typically, Rotary does not act as a first responder to an emergency so those who are looking to make an immediate contribution should consider first responder organizations like the American Red Cross or Shelter Box. Greg Krauska from Chanhassen Rotary is our ShelterBox liaison and will be providing details on how your donations to ShelterBox can be designated for the hurricane's victims.
In addition, the Rotary Foundation has established a donor advised fund for contributions. If you would like to help thought TRF please go to the following link: https://www.rotary.org/
Finally at our District level we have decided to wait for the emergency phase to pass and then consider joining with other Rotary Clubs and Districts in more traditional Rotary-style projects once the Rotary Districts in those affected areas can identify their most worthwhile projects. We will keep you apprised of any developments in that regard.
If you are moved to donate now while the emergency phase is still in full swing, please do so generously. I hope that once the emergency phase passes and the hard work of rebuilding begins, that we can count on you to contribute to whatever projects the clubs in our District find worthwhile to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
