Last week we heard from three of the amazing organizations that received spring grants from Wayzata Rotary:

 

TreeHouse was represented by Christa Trap and Heather Careful. TreeHouse provides services for at-risks kids, and our grant helped them purchase a van. The van allows TreeHouse to drive their kids to programming, sports, jobs and tutoring that they wouldn't otherwise be able to attend. During the ride, TreeHouse staffers are able to listen to the kids talk about what's happening in their lives and provide support. 

 

Ridgedale Y: Camp Christmas Tree was represented by Mark Ihrke. Camp Christmas Tree has provided memorable day camp experiences to Minnesota's kids for decades, and Wayzata Rotary's grant money provided 10 scholarship to kids who otherwise would not have been able to attend, including one family who was provided much needed respite care while the mother received chemotherapy treatment. 

 

The Park Nicollet Foundation was represented by Lynn Groll. Our grant money was earmarked for the "Growing Through Grief Program", a landmark venture launched in schools to support children's mental health as they navigate trauma and loss. The program's staffers are the first responders when there is an incident and strives to connect students with family members and the school community in healthy ways. Growing Through Grief is the first of its kind in the U.S. and is guiding other fledgling programs around the country.
