"When I Say Israel, What Picture Comes to Mind?"
Sally Abrams gave us a lovely speech about an aspect of Israel that most people don't think about when asked; "What picture comes to mind?" - Humanitarians.Israel has three groups that provide a wide range of humanitarian help.
1. ISRA Aid: A organization that travels globally to provide extreme crisis help. They have been in Nepal, Haiti, and the USA. They have most recently been in Greece meeting the rafts full of refugees fleeing terror.
2. Arab Bone Marrow Registry: This registry is located in Jerusalem and is the only bone marrow registry for Arabs in the world. It was created in the Jewish state of Israel so they could take of their own Arab population and have opened it to all Arabs worldwide.
3. Syrian Border: They have a field hospital with soldiers on the Syrian/Israeli border. Soldiers are there to help refugees who have been hurt and need medical assistance. She shared with us a story about a young girl who was injured and subsequently diagnosed with Leukemia. The hospital ensured she received the treatment she needed before releasing her. Sally left us with a bit of ancient Jewish wisdom:
"It is not up to you to finish the task, but you are not free to avoid it."
