 Dear District 5950 Rotarians: Our response for COVID-19 relief: We heard your call for our district to help the international community respond to the COVID-19 Crisis. District 5950's Rotary Foundation Committee authorized:
For our newer members, a brief summary of how our grant funds are allocated: Because of the outstanding historical generosity of the members of our district to The Rotary Foundation (TRF), we have about $400,000 distributed (after three years) to the district each year for grants initiated by our clubs. Half of this fund (about $200,000) is designated for projects that benefit our LOCAL communities, and the other half is restricted by TRF for GLOBAL projects. Each year we spend all of the LOCAL funds (which we will accomplish this year) and, in many years, like this year, we have excess GLOBAL funds as a carryover into the next year's fund. After careful review of our outstanding grant requests, it was determined that our district would have excess GLOBAL funds to carry forward to our next fiscal year, and that the above grants, along with the $30,000 previously committed to Polio Plus, would not conflict with GLOBAL projects the district clubs would likely bring forward over the next 15 month grant cycle. The above grants in no way affect the funds we have available for LOCAL projects in the next Rotary year. We know you would rather have these excess GLOBAL funds providing relief today than sitting in the bank as excess. Our designated COVID-19 grants:
Disaster Response Fund - The Rotary Foundation Trustees recently placed $1 million in its Disaster Response Fund to make grants immediately available for applications related to COVID-19. Our District's contribution supports grants that help Rotarians shore up the medical capabilities of their communities in all parts of the world, including hot spots in the United States. Don't forget The Rotary Foundation in your personal generosity: This is also a reminder to all of us of the need to individually support The Rotary Foundation with online gifts before our fiscal year end (June 30, 2020). It would be great to have the financial support of every member of every club, in any amount, to bring to them the value of personal fulfillment created by our collective generosity. It is our sharing today that will provide the funds for club and district grants in three years for new local and global challenges. Just go to Rotary.org to give.
