Growing Through Grief
The February 1 Rotary featured the Park Nicollet Foundation's Growing Through Grief program, an in-school grief support program for elementary, middle and high school students who have lost a loved one. The program serves more than 3,000 children each year and is currently offered in 64 public schools, 14 school districts, including Wayzata High School, Wayzata Central Middle School, Wayzata West Middle School and Wayzata East Middle School. Grief support services are provided free of charge and include one-on-one counseling, crisis interventions, and support groups. Unresolved grief can lead to irreparable, lifelong harm in young lives and can be a significant obstacle to learning and success in school. We are grateful to learn about children and their grief, and how this unique program is making impact in the lives of children in our community. Speakers included Nancy Gelle, Manager of Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital Hospice & Palliative Care programs and Growing Through Grief program, with testimonial from Dr. Chase Anderson, Superintendent of the Wayzata School District.
