Speaker Dr. Tod Worner & Host J.R. Boisclair
Dr. Tod Worner is a physician with a deep knowledge and love for history. He presented "Harry Truman, Accidental President". Harry Truman was a a WWI veteran and failed haberdasher with only a high school education who nonetheless became a two term senator. A self-taught student of leaders, he was chosen to as Vice President on the ticket during FDR's fourth Presidential campaign largely because he was suitably innocuous; in fact he had only met the President twice. When the President died only 87 days into his term in April 1945, Harry Truman was thrust into leadership on a global level in the midst of a World War II alongside difficult and mistrustful allies; he would soon be facing atomic weaponry decisions that would change the course of human history. Harry Truman did not want to be president, but met his challenges with the character, curiosity, work ethic and loyalty that inspired those around him and would come to define him famously with his "The Buck Stops Here" desk sign. As President, he will be remembered for The Marshall Plan, desegregation of the armed forces, the GI Bill, the germs of Medicare and universal health care, the Berlin Airlift, atomic diplomacy, the beginnings of NATO and the UN, and much more. Many thanks to Dr. Tod Worner and J.R. Boisclair for another excellent program.
