Over the past few years, WRC members have asked for more hands on volunteer opportunities.  Last fall, Angela and Community Service Chairs Michal Rye and Lynn Vettel recommended several idea to provide additional hands on volunteer opportunities.  We added the Volunteer Corner to the newsletter and created quarterly hands-on volunteer opportunities as follows –

•   December – set up/take down, etc. for our Holiday Party
•   February – Chilly Open hole sponsor
•   May/June – volunteer in Wayzata
•   September – JJ Hill Classic Car event

At last week's meeting Lynn presented a choice of 3 opportunities to help the City of Wayzata this spring:

• Cargill/Great River Greening Planting along Bushaway Road on April 22nd.  1000 trees and 1000 perennials will be planted as part of the Bushaway/Highway 101 reconstruction. Preregistration is required, so sign up today: http://greatrivergreening.org/vol-events/
• The Wayzata Dig it Day – May 20 from 8:15am – 11:30am.  Volunteers meet at City Hall.  They receive an overview and instructions for the day and then are disbursed on Lake Street and throughout Wayzata to plant the annuals and perennials in the Wayzata Gardens.  The Wayzata Public Works has tilled the soil, so volunteers just plant the flowers and plants.  
• Pull Garlic Mustard in the Big Woods – Wayzata is looking for groups to pull Garlic Mustard in the Big Woods.  We can do this on any day of the week that works for us.  A  volunteer supervisor is with the group  the entire time.  They will also instruct us on how to  identify the garlic mustard and how to remove it.

There was some interest in both the Dig It Day and the Garlic Mustard project as group projects, with some additional members already planning to help out with the Bushaway Road event as individuals. Please provide your thoughts and input to Lynn at lvettel@iocp.org.  Many thanks!
