David Ulrich - Twin Metals Mining
David Ulrich shared an overview of the mining proposal being explored in Northern Minnesota. The Duluth Complex, a geological area of rock over 1 billion years old that hosts four distinct types of magmatic mineral deposits, is being explored for mining by Plymed/Tech/and Twin Metals. The intent is to harvest copper, nickel, PGMs, and cobalt.David shared what "modern" mining entails and showed how the mining would all be 400 feet under the surface of the earth and well below the water tables. The propsed mining area is also in the Superior National Forest in a designated "desirable zone" and not near the Boundary Waters or Federal and State buffer zones.
David shared these links with the group, and of interest is the money that is required to be shared with school districts via the School Trust Fund. Wayzata school district received $485K in 2019.
