An annual service project for the Boise Sunrise club is delivering dictionaries to 3rd graders in our local schools. This is John's thoughts on the project.
One of the first community service activities I participated in when I joined Rotary in 2009 was delivering dictionaries to third graders at Taft Elementary, I have always loved this project and I am now the lead Boise Sunrise Rotarian for Washington and Lowell Elementary Schools. I shamelessly advocate for reading and vocabulary expansion as we distribute these personalized “gazetteers” to the students each fall. We also spend a few minutes talking about the 4-Way Test and I think I have found a way to connect with these youngsters on how they might use it in their own lives. In devising an excellent plan to resolve some nasty playground conflict. There is real service to students (and their teachers) in this project and I am a proud and consistently enthusiastic participant therein.
