On July 4th Boise Sunrise Rotary in partnership with the Nampa Rotary Club and the non-profit Because International delivered 294 pairs of "The Shoe That Grows" to a Girls' Education Club outside of Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique. Each Club seeks to keep girls in school to complete a primary level education and provides the opportunity for a select few to obtain a secondary education, an all too rare occurrence in much of Mozambique. Gorongosa National Park supports approximately 35 Girls' Clubs with a goal of expanding to 50 clubs by the end of the year. For several of the girls, this is the first pair of shoes they have owned. For the rest of the club these expandable shoes replace poorly made 'flip flops', providing not only a shoe that provides better protection but one which will last for up to five years as the owner’s foot continues to grow. This successful event is another example of a lengthy list of Idaho-Gorongosa cooperative efforts … the Girls’ Education Program is managed by Larissa Sousa (red coat), big sister of Boise State sophomore Michel Sousa.
