ANNOUNCEMENTS & NEWS:
Generalissimo Maurice was pleased to make two announcements. Bob Wood’s wife has had a healthy baby boy – named Cameron …..
….and last week’s cocktail party was a great success. Thanks to the hard work of the organizers Jason and Joe and Barbara. Treasurer Gary informed us that we raised $9,681 from tickets and the auction. After expenses the net income from the event was $6,700.
DGE David told us how pleased he was to be able to visit Bermuda. He hopes to bring his wife Dede next time. He summarized some District activities and opportunities, including grants available.
The District annual giving last year reached $115,000. He also encouraged us to visit the new Rotary website. Training is available. The site is designed to be helpful as a training resource and to assist with administrative functions in the Clubs.

SGT. AT ARMS:
Bob W was absent; no doubt looking after his wife and new baby. So Donato S twisted a few arms and otherwise persuaded people to help stuff the pig (which has developed a ‘leak’).

TODAY’S PROGRAMME:
George S introduced our guest speaker – Rev Nicholas Genevieve-Tweed.
Rev Tweed was born in England and graduated from Middlesex University. He co-founded the Mount Zion A.M.E. church with his father Dr Kingsley Tweed. His history includes work with the church in Atlanta Georgia, Providence Rhode Island, Hartford Connecticut, Flushing New York and Manhattan. He has also been honoured by the NAACP and is a member of the National Council of Churches USA.
On 1st January 2013 Rev Tweed was appointed to St Paul A.M.E. church in Hamilton.
He spoke to us on the ‘rules’ about being non-political in his remarks. However, he was able to quote from Shakespeare, TS Elliot, and Martin Luther King on a subject sometimes called ‘subversive obedience’. The church is compelled to be socially responsible, even if not in a party-political way. Poverty, greed and hunger must be addressed.
The church is a counterweight to the dominant culture in society. The church’s vision, voice and hope will lead to victory.
Rotarian Jan C offered the Club’s thanks to Rev Tweed for his inspirational talk.

Raffle: Kevin M got the winning raffle ticket but did not get the joker. Never mind, Kevin. There is not much in the kitty yet.

Would you buy a bottle of expensive wine from these two stallholders?
On the Realto - at the cocktail party
Jason explains something to the gathering crowd. I think he is making us an offer we can't refuse.

Why are these two laughing? They couldn't find Bob's conscience.

Delano busy counting people and money.

Flag-swapping with the District Governor-Elect.

Visiting Rotarians arrive.

Exchange Student Franz
La Presidentissima 2012/13 (Retired) recently sent out a schedule of Rotarians who were asked to entertain our new Exchange Student. For ease of reference, and as a reminder, I attach below the schedule for September and October.
Schedule for entertaining Franz.
A few years back, I introduced a social calendar for our Exchange Student when each Rotarian may spend time with him/her. This worked very well , recently a few members have asked for the re-introduction.
A little about Franz, he comes from a Seaport area in Northern Germany where he participates in water sports. Also he loves ball sports. So he is in the right place! As we have sailors, golfers and squash fanatics among our membership, it should not be a problem to entertain him.
Franz contact is 516 2683, he will not have his license until November. He lives with host mom Wendy Dill of 20 Long Ridge Pass, Palmetto Rd., Devonshire.
See below the schedule, if you wish you may change places with another member if the selected date for you is not convenient.
Barbara.
