It takes a village to raise a child and therefore The Pembroke Rotary Club is looking to provide community support for foster children and their parents/caregivers. A well-stocked backpack does more than just prepare kids with many of the tools they'll need in the classroom; it boosts their eagerness to go back to school. And when presented a gift from a Rotarian, a community volunteer or a school principal, the student realizes that others want them to succeed and have a vested interest in them personally.
What is Backpacks for Kids Bermuda about? This community and literacy service project is intended to supply a new backpack and basic school supplies to children in Bermuda with the goal of providing incentive and excitement about learning, by giving them the tools they require to succeed and overall the knowledge that the community believes in their success. We determined there was need to provide literacy incentives via backpacks and school supplies for foster children and garnered the support of the Foster Care Coordinator with Family Services. We are not just giving away backpacks. Join us in showing kids that we all believe they can succeed. The backpacks will be distributed on 29th August 2010 at the PCC from 4:00 - 7:00pm at the Foster Parents Association Back to School BBQ.
