Rotary Club of Vidor
The motto for Rotary is Service Above Self and our club takes that to heart. We are known throughout our Rotary district as “The Little Club That Could” for our vast number of service projects that our small club accomplishes and for our can-do attitude. Our ongoing projects include:
- Our most recognizable project is the Little Green Bus- We have a Monthly Read and Feed twice per month throughout the year, bringing meals and books to low-income apartments in Vidor. We also have the summer read and feed in partnership with Vidor ISD, which allows us to go 4 days per week during June.
Dolly Parton Imagination Library – This program sends out free books each month to children from birth to age 5. In partnership with the Dolly Parton Foundation, we have sent out 20,317 books to children in our community since October 2014. There are currently over 145 children in the program, and we have graduated 497. We have sent out 1,861 books in 2025.
- At the United Christian Care Center, we volunteer to pack Thanksgiving Baskets, Christmas Baskets, and school supplies as well as host an annual food drive.
- With help from Vidor Global Methodist Church, place Flags on Main Street and at the Community Center on seven holidays each year.
- At Vidor ISD, we recognize the Vidor High School Students of the month, provide scholarships to graduating seniors, sponsor the summer reading camp, host a day of the camp, and sponsor Interact Students for Rotary Youth Leadership events.
- We partner with Orange County United Way by participating in their Annual Community Resource Fair and their Feed the Funnel and Day of Caring events.
We visit Daycares in Vidor to read to the preschool classes and help them choose a book from the bus to keep.
During the holidays, we volunteer with the Salvation Army for bell ringing.
- We participate in community Events such as Homecoming, Hometown Holidays, and SETX Music Jam.
