Committed to service. Dedicated to community.
Community Partnerships & Local Projects
The Rotary Club of Kentville works closely with local organizations and community groups to support projects that improve quality of life throughout the Annapolis Valley. Rotary members regularly collaborate on initiatives that enhance public spaces, support vulnerable residents, and strengthen community connections. These partnerships allow the club to contribute both funding and volunteer support to projects that make a meaningful difference locally.
Rotary provides financial and volunteer support to a wide range of local organizations that serve the community. This includes support for social enterprises, accessibility initiatives, and programs that provide opportunities for people of all abilities. By partnering with local organizations, the club helps extend its impact and reach those who need support the most.
Parks & Public Spaces
Rotary members are actively involved in improving local parks and shared spaces for everyone to enjoy. Volunteers have participated in projects such as park cleanups, planting gardens, installing benches and picnic tables, and helping maintain outdoor areas like Oakdene Park. The club has also supported larger community improvement efforts such as the Miners Marsh project, helping to create welcoming outdoor spaces for residents and visitors alike.
Health & Community Well-Being
The club supports projects that enhance the health and well-being of local residents. This includes financial contributions to healthcare initiatives and community programs, as well as support for organizations that provide essential services. Through fundraising and partnerships, Rotary helps fund equipment, programs, and services that strengthen the overall well-being of the community.
People With Disabilities (PWD) – Helping Community Members Thrive
The Rotary Club of Kentville’s People With Disabilities (PWD) Committee is one of the club’s most impactful and compassionate service efforts. This committee exists to assist children and adults living with a wide variety of disabilities who have limited financial resources and need help accessing supports, equipment, or opportunities that aren’t otherwise available to them.
Driven by Rotary’s motto Service Above Self, the PWD Committee carefully reviews applications and works closely with applicants and community partners to ensure help goes where it’s needed most. Support can include funding for essential medical equipment, adaptive technology, mobility aids, specialized education or training, and accessibility‑related needs that make daily life more comfortable and empowering.
Much of the committee’s ability to assist comes from the generosity of the Hilda and Lewis D. Chipman Memorial Fund—an endowed fund that provides ongoing financial resources—and from funds raised through Rotary initiatives like the Valley Faces of Business project.
Over the years, the PWD Committee has helped individuals with things as varied as accessible transportation, mobility devices, summer programs, educational support, and technology that enhances independence. Many of these contributions have a lasting effect on quality of life and community participation for local residents.
The committee also fosters community connections beyond financial support—hosting events like the Rotary Children’s Christmas Dinner, where families and individuals supported by PWD come together for a festive meal and celebration, reinforcing a sense of inclusion and belonging.
Through thoughtful screening, collaboration, and Rotary’s broad network of volunteers, the PWD Committee continues to make a meaningful local impact by helping members of the community live fuller, more rewarding lives.
Community Events & Volunteer Service
Rotary members are active volunteers at community events throughout the year. From fundraising activities to community barbecues and service days, these events bring people together while supporting important local causes. The club also participates in initiatives such as holiday campaigns and community celebrations that help build a strong sense of community.
