Presentation: Josh Oulton on Trip to support Jamaican Farmers
Josh Oulton, from Taproot Farms in Port Williams, N.S., travelled to the Jamaica in early March with $11,000 raised by Rotary clubs in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick to buy yam heads and fertilizer so farmers could regenerate yam fields destroyed by Hurricane Melissa.
Josh described the country of Jamaica and the current situation for farmers. He also showed pictures of farmers receveig and dividing up the yam heads and fertilizer. He was also able to talk and visit with some of the people who have worked at his farm in Port Williams.
Finally members asked questions about where the yam heads came from, and asked that Josh talk a little about what yams were!
Greg Trefry thanked Josh for his presentation but more imprtantly for his initiative to get something done for people who need it!
Club did the 50/50 Draw and the Four Way Test and Adjourned.
