Nov 1st Program

This week's program was brought to us by Audrey Levine, founder of the Ellis Hospitality Center at 1048 Woodworth Blvd.   It is a community-based progrogram founded in March of 2008.  It is named after her late husband.  It targets low-income people in the community, the homless, the chronically mentally ill, the needy, the elderly and provides counceling to families who are in crisis.

It exists to provide the most basic needs without discrimination or cost to anyone requesting assistance.  All people are welcomed - men, women and children.  The program is designed to educate, provide valuable services and resources, to help end rather than manage homelessness.  Services are provided to improve discharge planning for individuals exiting public institutions.  They provide families with adequate parenting skills to help prevent children from being placed in foster care.  It helps homeless people access income and employment and provides services using a system called the "Care Approach".  The program will evaluate and assess the targeted groups.  Some may need health care, some may need a safe and secure place for food and shelter.   The center provides a hot breakfast each morning to it's patrons.

The program is funded through grants from the City of Port Arthur and other contributions.  It is a 501c(3) Non-Profit organization.
