The More We Get Together, The Happier We'll Be- The importance of Rotary Attendance
The more we get together, Together, together- The Importance of Rotary Attendance

The more we get together the happier we’ll be!! Hope that you now have this great children’s song by Irving King in your head. What a joy it is when we get together! Hope you enjoy our company and fellowship. Regular attendance is a direct measure of your interest in our Rotary Club of Port Arthur, Texas. We miss you when you are not here. If you are absent, consider how many things your absence affects…
When you are not here:
- You are missing a wonderful speaker, and being able to deliver a good crowd impacts our ability to ATTRACT those high-quality speakers.
- Your presence builds the sense of solid fellowship that draws new members, and if you are not here you also diminish your own ability to get full VALUE out of “The Magic of Rotary”.
- We are a service organization founded on the principle of encouraging good works through friendships between members of different professions. Each one of you is a representative of your profession and your input is very valuable.
- Regular attendance is required to serve as a Club officer and to qualify for elections and other programs.
- At the end of every meeting we say…And for our club…Is it Fun? This addition to the 4 way test we hope rings true! It's just plain FUN to meet up with our friends and your friends - SO . . . THE MORE WE GET TOGETHER THE HAPPIER WE’LL BE.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A HABIT? – We have all heard that it takes 21 days to establish a habit. I want to challenge you to start small. If you have not been to a meeting in a while? Will you log in to the zoom if you can’t make it, next meeting? Will you come to the next meeting? Will you try for perfect attendance for the next month? Can you try to attend 5, 10, 21 consecutive meetings this year?
As an educator I know the importance of attendance. We consistently fight the battle of getting our students to school because if they are not there they are not learning. Students who drop out of school are normally students who are disengaged from school. Our club in particular loses 9 members a year. Our goal is to have 50 active members. Currently on our books we have 40 members. So, with the current trend we would need to add 19 members to make it to 50 by the end of this year. We hope that you help us reach our goal by first and foremost remaining onboard as a Rotarian, but to also help us continue to grow and become a vibrant club. You help us grow by recruiting other members and you help us be a vibrant club by attending and bringing your bright smile.
ATTENDANCE IS A HABIT - we all choose to develop the constructive habit of being present at Rotary or the negative habit of being absent. Rotarians are expected to be there. You cannot serve well if you're not up-to-speed with what's going on. We're ALL busy people - when you miss you become disengaged and risk dropping out. The standard Rotary Club Constitution states that the purpose of Rotary's attendance requirement is to foster fellowship among club members by providing an opportunity to make new friends and keep in touch with established friends.
MAKE UP: The goal is to attend or make up at least 60% of regular Rotary club meetings.. In order to get attendance credit, you must attend a make-up meeting or event within 14 days before or after the regular time of your missed meeting.
ONLINE MAKEUPS: D5910 Lonestar e-Club is quick and easy ways to make up a missing meeting ONLINE - - check them out! We all have to miss now and again. When that happens, do a 'make-up' within two weeks and help improve our club attendance record.
If you cannot attend a club meeting, there are many ways you can still receive attendance credit because making up is really a snap or join ANY Rotary club meeting, ANYwhere, within two weeks of your absence, counts. We naturally think our own club is the most fun, but a positive aspect of make-ups is that an occasional visit to a different club will enrich your appreciation of Rotary's grand diversity.
LET US KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO TO MAKE OUR MEETINGS SO WORTHWHILE THAT YOU WOULDN'T EVEN DREAM OF MISSING ONE!
