told us about his experiences in getting out a newspaper during Hurricane Ike.

He stayed in Port Arthur and put out the paper on Friday, September 12th more or less single-handed.  He rode out the storm Friday night with his family at Ivanhoe before carefully picking his way back down Highway 69 to Port Arthur Saturday to provide coverage of the aftermath of the Ike, a storm as big as Texas.  He was able to communicate with his staff in Tyler who updated PANEWS.COM.  A Sunday/Monday combination of the Port Arthur News-Orange Leader originated from Roger's computer in his bedroom in Groves, was sent over his DSL internet and printed in Palestine.  Roger's son delivered the newspaper to those readers who had stayed here or had returned and were hungry for news.

Roger raised important questions about what we should do to protect our area from future storms.  Can we raise our seawall?  What can be done to protect Bridge City and Orange?
