Roger Underwood, Roger Cowles, Merle Hebert and Bobby Tingle

told us about the present state of the newspaper business.  Roger Cowles started with a facimile of the first issue of the Port Arthur News that  was printed on April 18, 1897 on an excursion train headed to Port Arthur.  Today the internet has brought changes to the newspaper.  When the barge hit the tanker in the canal recently a Port Arthur News reporter took pictures with her cell phone and text messaged it back to the office where Roger Cowles emailed it to himself and then inserted into the paper.  During the recent hurricanes Roger was sending stories to Tyler where they was being put on a blog for everyone to follow.

Newpapers are not going to be replaced by the internet, it will just serve as an expansion of services.  Keep an eye on www.panews.com.
