Patrick Murphy
 

Grew up in Pasadena, Texas.

 

While attending University of Houston at Clear Lake
he got a job working at the Houston Down-Town
YMCA from 5:30 until 8:30 AM.  During this time
he became interested in the Y and has stayed with
it.  While at the Houston Y he had tthe opportunity
to work with Astro baseball players and Astronauts.

 

He manages a staff of up to 105 employees at the
7000 member Port Arthur YMCA.  The Port Arthur
Y served over 10,000 people this past year.

 

His wife Janet teaches math at Nederland High
School.

 

His youngest daughter Amy is at Texas A&M
majoring in international studies.

 

His son David has recently graduated from TCU
and is employed by SMC selling pneumatic actuators
for assembly lines.

 

His oldest daughter Sarah is a Texas A&M graduate
and is teaching in Waller.  Next year she will be
teaching in a very successful charter school in
Houston.

 

He was sponsored in Rotary by Mike Kelly, his predecessor at the Port Arthur YMCA.

 

He was introduced to Rotary at an early age when
his Rotarian father took him to a meeting where
he met UT coach Daryl Royal.

 

His sister is an actress who had been on many TV
shows and a few movies. 

 

He told us that the Port Arthur YMCA has just received
a $216,000 grant from the United Way of America to partner with the Salvation Army providing services for families in a Hurricane Rita affected community.
