Bob West - Sports Editor - Port Arthur News

made his annual visit to our club this week.  He opened with a brief discussion of the Astros.  He feels there is little hope until the owner trades the few remaining star players with a few productive years left and begins a rebuilding program with promising rookies.

Next came the Cowboys.  Bob feels that we have a good chance of seeing the Cowboys playing in the Super Bowl at Jerry-World next January.  With a lot of luck it could even be an All Texas Teams affair.

He feels that we can expect to see our Texas College teams in new conferences.  He said the out come of the breakup of the Big 12 would really be driven by television contracts rather than the advantges of fewer missed classes made possible by regional conference affiliations.

He talked about the quality of athletes coming out of South East Texas, especially Jamaal Charles.  Bob describes him as a bigger Little Joe Washington and looks for great things from him considering his productivity last year even though he played only half the season.

He told us that Wade Phillips is still a great supporter of his home town area.

He still feels the Chris Stroud is poised to break out the pack. (In his Sunday article he told about Chris grabbing the 12th and final spot among 120 players in the 36-hole U.S. Open.  It should be a great Father's Day for Jimmy Stroud to see his son play in another U.S. Open.)

We greatly appreciate these sessions with Bob West.
