The Rotary club of Port Arthur was honored to host District Governor Leon Willhite and Lynn Willhite along with Assistant District Governor Bobby Simon and Doris Simon. We were also visited by Kay DeCuir President of the Nederland Rotary Club.
The meeting was lead in prayer by Rotarian Dr. Lawanda Black-Finney, Pledges to the American and Texas Flags led by Rotarian Dr. JT Beckman. We were honored to have District Governor (DG) Leon Willhite lead us in a rendition of "When the Saints Go Marchin in". DG Willhite shared at the board meeting that he has spent multiple years leading his club in song, so we put him to the test! He did not disappoint. The DG was enthusiastic and did a fantastic job. Dr. JT Beckman stated he would be evaluating the DG and Dr. Beckman stated he did a terrific job!
Dr. Betty Reynard was presented with her first Paul Harris Fellow. The pin was given to her by Assistant District Governor Bobby Simon. The certificate presented by District Governor Leon Willhite. The Paul Harris Fellow royal and gold medallion neck ribbon with medal was presented Club President Dr. Jesus Acosta.
The DG presented his goals for the district not only for this year but for the future. "I am proud to say that the Rotary Club of Port Arthur is in a good place regarding the goals for the district, but we will continue to support the vision of the District Governor".
At the end of the DG speech he surprised President Dr. Jesus Acosta with a Paul Harris Fellow. This is the first Paul Harris Fellow for Dr. Acosta. "I was shocked and honored to receive this recognition by the District Governor". Dr. Rosalind Queen presented the pin to Dr. Acosta and DG Leon Willhite presented the certificate.
Immediately following that recognition we were able to recognize Thomas Neal with his PHF+2 pin. District Governor Leon Willhite presented the pin.
The group that was able to stay until the end took a group picture...well multiple group picture as our photographer extraordinare wanted the perfect shot! We are lucky to have a dedicated public image chair in Dr. Lawanda Finney. The DG was presented with a gift from the club that included the "Cajun Capital of Texas" goodies. Rotarian Tammy Kotzur assisted in presented the gift.
