Rose is a charter member of the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County, chartered in 1997.  She has served as club president and in all avenues of service.  Currently, she serves as the club's chair of the Foundation Committee and as editor of the club's newsletter.  At the district level, Rose has served as Assistant Governor, Chair for Water Management, a member of the Annual Fund, Bulletin, GSE, Ambassadorial Scholars, and Youth Exchange committees.  Rose is a member of District 5910's Roll of Fame, a recipient of the Four Avenues of Service Award, and a member of the Paul Harris Society.  

 

In addition to her Rotary service, Rose is actively involved in other organizations.  She serves on the Board of Jackson State University National Alumni Association and was named Alumna of the Year in 2003 and was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame in 2007.  She serves as Chair of the Development Committee for New Horizons, a non-profit organization serving citizens with developmental disabilities, and as president of the Women's Guild at her church.  In 2001 she began a scholarship fund to send students to college in her hometown of Nettleton, MS. 

 

Recently retired from the Lone Star College System in Houston where she served as Dean for Institutional Effectiveness, Rose now serves as an education consultant and adjunct professor at Springfield College-Houston Campus.  She teaches graduate courses in strategic planning and non-profit board development.

 

During the Governor-Elect year Rose has been instrumental in the following accomplishments: the development of the district's three-year District's Strategic Plan, additional leadership training and communication for Presidents-Elect through a monthly newsletter, creation of job descriptions for all district positions, expanded the youth program to include Early Act, and

made application for participation in one of the National immunization Days.

 

Rose holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from Jackson State University and a Doctorate of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston.  She has been married to her husband, Milton Austin, for 39 years.  She enjoys antique collecting, traveling, gardening, and reading.
