Jimmy Dikes - Director - Pleasure Island Commission

brought us up to date on Pleasure Island.  Prior to Hurricane Ike the Marina had 305 boats in the water.  After Hurricane Ike there were 5 boats in the water, but they were impailed on pilings or sunk.  Prior to Ike the Marina had just be rebuilt after damage from Hurricane Rita.  It had fixed docks.  It is planned to build floating docks this time.  FEMA says we must build floating docks, but FEMA is paying for only about one third of the 12 million dollars needed to replace what was lost.

Before Ike the golf course was in its fourth year and was about to reach a break even point.  Hurricane Ike put five feet of water on it, taking out the greens, tee boxes and the irrigation system.  Again FEMA is giving about a third of what is needed to replace the golf course.  It will be at least another two years until the golf course is ready for use.

The old dry dock on Pleasure Island was severely damaged just before Hurricane Ike.  It is possible that Motiva will put their new terminal at that site.
