2023-24 Leadership - BOD

President Alysa Sakkas
I joined Rotary in 2016 after long admiring what our club does. I studied Computer Engineering at U of M (Go Blue!) -  now a retired Aerospace Systems Engineer.  I'm also active in the Cupertino-Toyokawa sister cities program and in 4H (bee keeping).  I enjoy the wide variety of activities our club has to offer, especially World Community Services,. The magnitude of each project enabled by a TRF grant is astounding, and our opportunities to travel are truly unique because we connect with people in other countries in ways beyond being traditional tourists.

I joined Cupertino Rotary in 2019.  I  volunteered for projects, taking the lead on some, and was  Chair of the Workforce Development Committee in 21-22.  I enjoyed a career helping people through Education and Rehabilitation, and Rotary provides many opportunities to continue doing so. I especially enjoy the opportunities for fellowship with Rotary, and hope to travel to see some of the international Rotary projects in the future.  I enjoy travel, reading, hiking, friendships, my 4 grown children and 2 grandchildren.  I'm looking forward to serving as  Secretary for Cupertino Rotary this year.
Director Steve Rudd
I joined Cupertino Rotary in 1976 and served as Club President in 1980-81. Highlights over the past 47 years include presenting luncheon programs to Club members, working at the Oktoberfest Festival fundraisers, contributing funds to TRF's Polio Plus project, working on many community service projects, traveling to China on international service projects, and attending numerous Club social events. In retirement, I enjoy men's double tennis, mystery movies and novels, travel at home and abroad, and attending family events.

I was introduced to Rotary through another volunteer activity in 2009,  and since then I have been a member of Cupertino Rotary. Even though I am still “working”, being at Rotary is very energizing. The project ideas, the meetings, the discussions, and all aspects are very motivating and is helping me to grow as a person and give back to the local and world community while my friendship circle is expanding.  As SDO, I hope to help the club “Imagine” the possibilities for our members and the community and I am grateful for the opportunities.

I joined Rotary in 2011 after working in high tech and elementary education. I love working with technology, reading traveling and biking.  I am looking forward to leading our club in this challenging year and having all our members see the opportunities our club has to offer in service and fellowship

CREF President, Jim Davis

I joined the Cupertino Rotary in February 2019 to help the president of that year pad her new member statistics. Prior to that, for many years I volunteered for Rotary events such as Fall Fest, Golf Tournament, Rebuilding, Thanksgiving turkey delivery and Operation Snowflake. I retired in 2018 after 40 years in high tech, most recently with Microsemi Corp as the Vice President of Software Development. These days I can be found riding my road bike, playing and enjoying music, working in the yard, and having a large cat sit in my lap while reading (or anything else that requires me to sit down)

Fund Development Officer, Kathy Yates
I first got to know Cupertino Rotarians in 2009, while traveling to India to visit several Cupertino Rotary international service partners and do some sightseeing. At the time, I was  about to become CEO of an educational software company in San Francisco, so I didn’t have the time to join the club then. But, it was one of the first things I did when I retired in 2015. I am currently the sponsor of a Global Grant  to provide a mobile dental clinic project in Chile, and also serve as Chair of the Fund Development committee. Rotary enriches my life: I’ve made many friendships through Rotary and travelled to interesting parts of the world.
Director, Mauri Okamoto-Kearny
I found my inspiration when I joined Cupertino Rotary in April 2020.  Its diverse memberships inspired me to get engaged, try new activities and identify new ways to contribute locally and internationally.  Now, still a newbie, I volunteered to co-chair the World Community Services Committee and have also taken on the responsibilities of Veterans Engagement Advocate, the latter to raise the awareness within the Club across Committees for ways to support our veterans.  I am honored to be a member of the Rotary Club Board.
Director, Dana Drysdale
Cupertino Rotary was part of a new start in 1994 that fit in with a job change, a growing family, quest for new values, and being part of a place that seemed like home.  Around 2005, my Rotary time decreased to help with home, youth sports, and work. 2020 Zoom and Biking was a great way to reengage. My Rotary passions are Community and Values. I enjoy family, friends, and car activities including  Porsche Club of America (PCA) events.

Director, Judy Wilson
I joined Rotary 15 years ago after raising 4 children and working as a Human Resource executive. Rotary introduced me to a whole new world of opportunity and friendships. I was the President of the club in 2016-17 and my theme was all about our Partnerships. My Rotary passion now is working with Membership, both finding new members, but more importantly making membership meaningful. I have also taken a leadership positions with the District and was “Chief of Staff” for Savita Vaidyanathan for the year 2022-23

Director, Helene Davis

I’ve been a member of the Rotary Club of Cupertino for 14 years and served in many different capacities.  The committee I am most involved in is World Community Services and I have been on nine international service trips and a champion of three global grants.

I am a life long resident of Cupertino, In my Rotary off-hours I enjoy hiking, biking and travel, most likely doing all three with my fellow Rotarians!

President Elect  Jeff Moe

I joined Cupertino Rotary in 2012, but have been connected with Rotary all my life by virtue of my dad's life-long active involvement in Rotary.  My favorite club activities include Rebuilding Together and social events.  I service as a Trustee on the Fremont High School District board and as such am involved in school-related programs sponsored by Rotary such as the annual art exhibit and poetry contest.

Director Louisa Roberts
I joined Cupertino Rotary club in July 2018, after retiring as a Tech Specialist and formerly School Librarian for Cupertino Union School District. I have enjoyed serving on several  committees, Chairing the 2022 Golf Tournament and volunteering  for many Rotary projects. I enjoy playing golf, hiking, reading, cooking, swimming and yoga.  I look forward to more travels with the club and developing new opportunities to serve our community

Past President  Steve Onishi
I joined Rotary in 2010 for the service and fellowship opportunities. After spending 27 years working in the biotech/medical device space and the past six years in the nonprofit area,  I look forward to bringing my passion to “Imagine Rotary” (this year’s Rotary international theme). We’ll turn Rotarians’ service project ideas into reality to better serve our local and global communities.
