PP Richard Lowenthal joined the Presidents Club in honor of his first Grandchild Siena Marie.

George Tyson presented an update on WCS. We have 9 active projects, and more coming. We also have 15 other projects we support. He talked about our Kenya water project and showed a picture of our members currently visiting our Ethiopia oxygen project
Joe Ribera gave an update on the TRF campaign, we are currently at 65% of our financial goal with just under 50% of members contributing.  Joe covered the different recognitions and congratulated Tom Pyke, Victor Augesteo and Bob Pruitt for becoming Paul Harris Fellows and to PP Hung Wei for becoming a benefactor. Don’t forget to make your pledge here before the campaign ends, we need everyone’s support to hit our goals.

Announcements:
PP Judy Wilson reminded everyone to continue to collect paper bags to help WVCS, drop them at WVCS or at her house or bring to Quinlan.

Seema reminded members they can sign up to be trained by SunWork on installing solar panels for future climate change service projects. Contact Seema for details.

Shyamoli Banerjee presented a new project to get bikes for those in need. You can donate your old bike to help the project. Contact Shyamoli or to arrange to get them your unused bike.
 
Rod announced that Bocce ball would be canceled due to rain and darkness, see you next year.

Leslie Hay announced a “Night of Magic” on Nov 17th, a special fellowship evening meeting with food and wine and an in-person magician for entertainment. Mark your calendars.

President Rod introduced this week’s speaker, David Witkowski of Silicon Valley Joint Ventures who gave us an excellent presentation on 5G.  The video of his presentation can be seen here.
 
Some of the highlights of his talk were:
  • Communications and Networks are critical to our current way of life
  • Mobile Data consumption is growing rapidly, wireless is growing rapidly
  • Cellular Network was important to continue school/telecommuting during the Pandemic
  • There are still concerns (EMF, Real Estate Valuation, Aesthetics), studies and data show there does not appear to be any real issues. Like the fear of Electricity when it started.
  • 5G provides more connections and higher speeds allowing Internet of Things and autonomous driving. We will applications we can’t even think of now.
  • Private industry will invest $275B which is more than the Apollo program and just a little less than the Interstate Highway system.  16M jobs over the next 5 years
  • 5G will replace 4G and will add new communication bands (millimeter wave)
