Election for 2024-2027 Board of Directors and Board of Trustees
On Wednesday, December 6, the membership will elect four Rotarians to serve on the Club's Board of Directors and one new trustee for the Beaumont Rotary Foundation. The newly-elected will serve for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2024.
The Nominating Committee selected qualified candidates who will appear on the ballot. A sample ballot appears below and if you click on it, you can open a larger version that is more easily read. The ballot shows the nominees for the two Boards, and we will be voting on December 6.
You must be present at the meeting on December 6 either in person at the Elegante or using Zoom through which you will cast an electronic ballot.
As you consider your vote, please remember that according to the Club bylaws, a person must have been elected to a 3-year term on the Board of Directors to be selected to serve as Club President. Article 3, Section 4 reads: ".. the president-nominee shall have been a director elected by the membership at some time previous to his or her selection." In other words, you could be voting for a future club president!

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION PRESENTED
Since the earliest days of the Rotary Club of Beaumont, it has been a tradition to record the passing of a member into Club history with the writing of a Memorial Resolution to document his/her service and contributions. The reading of the Resolution is an opportunity to reflect on the good deeds and significant impact the Rotarian had on the Club and the community. The formally printed document is given to the family members, added to the Club's archives, and entered into the records of the Tyrrell Historical Library.
On November 29, the club recognized the life of former Rotarian Chuck Mason, a member of the Rotary Club of Beaumont since 1982. The Resolution was read by his long-time friend and fellow Rotarian, Cynthia Wolf.
His Rotary Classification was "Construction-Industrial Excavation." Chuck Mason, a Rotarian since 1982, passed away on January 8, 2023.

DISTRICT 5910 VISION FACILITATOR TRAINING
Saturday December 16th, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm- The Woodlands, TX
Join us Saturday 12/16/2023 to learn the proven process of "Vision to Success", a curated process specific for Rotary Clubs that allows the entire club to achieve continuity, consistency and consensus.
As a trained volunteer facilitator, you will be part of a special team that will help Clubs in our District make a greater impact. Trained Facilitators will be coordinated based on the location and date requested by Rotary Clubs (starting 2024). Only trained facilitators can assist in this vital effort! It is a rewarding and exciting opportunity to hear the visions, feel the passion, and see first hand Service Above Self.

Would you like to be a part of the Rotary Holiday Chorus? Once again Rotarian Dr. James Han has graciously agreed to direct the 2023 Chorus which will perform at the Holiday Party. He is picking some great music. Don't miss out on the fun! Join now and invite family and friends too.

Martin Elementary School will host their annual Polar Express Day for students on Friday, December 15, 2023. In order to make this event a success for 545 students, they could use a little help gathering supplies and/or donations. Some items that they could use are: hot chocolate packets, marshmallows, and snack cakes. Thank you for everything that you have done and continue to do to support Martin Elementary School. Feel free to bring these items to the meeting December 6 or to the Holiday Party December 14.

SALVATION ARMY RED KETTLE PROJECT
Every year, nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army in the form of meals, shelter, after-school programs, job referrals, youth shelter intervention programs, rehabilitation services, and more. The gifts you help collect through the Red Kettle will enable these local Salvation Army programs and services to continue providing help and hope to those in need.
For a number of years, the Rotary Club of Beaumont has been one of the many organizations that tend a booth at Parkdale Mall and participate in the collection process. It is a demonstration of "Service Above Self."
Catie Miller is Chair of the project and is asking YOU to volunteer to help this year. Please sign up for the hour(s) you can help on Saturday, December 16. We need volunteers.
Sign up your spouse or a friend or two to work with you, and if the sign-up form does not allow enough room, phone the Rotary Office (409-842-1913) and ask that the number of spaces be expanded for your family or small group. Thank you.
Matthew Matheny grew up in Beaumont and attended Kelly High School and Baylor University. He made it clear that he would be leaving Texas and Beaumont and never come back as soon as he finished his education. Somehow, that statement of “never” became a learning situation when things turned out a little differently than expected.
Matthew’s father was his educator in Downtown Beaumont and its architecture and history. He fondly remembered lunch time walks with his father talking about the buildings downtown and what they were and what it meant to the people living in Beaumont. As a result, he became very active in Beaumont Main Street and presently serves as its President. Our community should realize the potential that exists in our downtown. The city is part of the National Trust and our council realizes how important a vigorous downtown is for the people living here.
The City’s greatest resource is its people. Revitalizing Downtown needs the assistance of the community. Businesses and restaurants need the support of the community as they develop and grow. Retail, restaurants and business means more money coming into the community. A business hotel and small convention center close to the present convention center are being discussed with an investment firm that has experience in this area.
Our museum district is well recognized and activity around them is widespread. We soon may have a statue of the Big Bopper downtown in the Museum District.
To revitalize Downtown, we need help from the community. Next year Riverfront Park will be completed sometime in September. Plans for the AT&T building space will be going forward. The owner of the Hotel Beaumont is looking at the possible location of a Hampton Inn in part of that building. The city and Beaumont Police Department have made commitments to make downtown a safe and secure location. Vacant buildings need to be secured. Crocket Street will have three businesses open soon with the Riverside Grille’s recent opening. Neches Room is reopening with catering by Riverside Grill. The Mexican restaurant space on the opposite end of the street is also being investigated for a new venture.
Community support will help revitalize the downtown area.
