"Texas Oil and Gas Industry: Jobs, Taxes, Growth and Hydraulic Fracturing"
Luke Legate
Texas Oil & Gas Association
Southeast Texas, like most of Texas, enjoys a healthy economy based on the oil and gas industry and developments in the area remain a topic of great interest.
Our speaker will be Texas energy advocate, Luke Legate, from G. Fox Consulting. Luke advocates for the Texas energy sector as part of the Statewide Joint Association Education Initiative, which includes the Texas Oil & Gas Association, the Texas Pipeline Association, the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, TIPRO and regional associations in the Permian Basin, the Panhandle and the Eagle Ford.
His presentation is described as "upbeat...full of statistics and humor." We welcome Mr. Legate.
Because of new procedures being implemented by Rotary International regarding dues payments, the Club must tighten up our practices of dues collection as well. Invoices will be sent earlier, as they were in June, and payments will be expected within 30 days. Those who have not paid on the first day of the dues cycle will receive a repeat invoice. The Board will review membership payments monthly.
Invoices for July-December 2014 dues were sent electronically to all active members on June 2. Please check your email for it. If you did not receive the invoice, you will want to check your "spam" folder or phone the office. If you need a paper copy of your invoice sent to you or your company's accounting department, please contact the office at 842-1913 for assistance.
The volunteers and teams were awesome! A record number of volunteers turned out in force and were ready to roll early on the morning of Independence Day, successfully performing a wonderful service for our club and, in fact, all of Beaumont.
President Vernon has said his main goal is grow the club with increased attendance and participation in projects. It will take a commitment from every member to help him reach his goal. Mark your weekly calendar as "Rotary meeting" on Wednesday and come enjoy lunch, fellowship and a great program!
We send wishes for a quick recovery to friends and fellow Rotarians who have recently been ill or had surgery. We miss you and hope you are feeling better soon!

The pink Polio Pig appeared at our club meetings for the first time just a few months ago and already $400 has been collected for the End Polio Now campaign. With the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation 2:1 match, it will total $1,200. Our goal is $2500 so we have only $2,100 to go! Let's keep it growing this year.
Vernon Pierce’s inauguration indicates that the club will have an active and fun year. Roger McCabe, Past District Governor and Past President, installed Vernon as our President for 2014-15. Vernon then presented Past President Chad with a plaque, a past president’s pin, and a special coin in recognition of his successful year.
Officers of the Board were installed: Vice President-Ted Moor, Secretary-Sharon McCabe, Past President-Chad Blanchard, Treasurer-Leonard Juncker, Sergeant at Arms-John Weitzel, President Elect-Pat Anderson, President’s Advisor-Larry Beaulieu, and the Directors: Chris Ayers, Barry Bryant, Lynn Castle, Craig Lively, Craig Escamilla, Steve Lucas, John Quigley, Tim Sudela and Ryan Smith.
Lane Chairs were announced and installed: John Weitzel (Administration), Roger McCabe (International), Craig Lively (Membership), Cindy Cherry (Service) and Kate Carroll (Public Relations).
Vernon also announced that Craig Escamilla will continue to chair the Strategic Planning Committee, Phil Dunlop will chair a group working on the By-Laws and Past President Becky Mason will chair a group focusing on Special Projects.
This year’s motto, Light Up Rotary, is great for President Vernon. In that light he said that he has the following goals: first, to "not screw-up a good club" but his main serious goal is to get members who have not been coming to meetings “back and active with us.” Presently, of our 250 members, about 100 participate actively. President Vernon plans to grow our club by activating club members who will want to bring more people to membership.
He intends to introduce new members and wants a really strong welcome for them including a greeting at the door as members leave.
Programs are very important and he know that Ted Moor will have a great year (off to a good start). The Marketplace Minute will continue but may have a couple of new twists.
He wants the club to review the projects we fund and consider different ways to fundraise specifically for upcoming projects. In short, President Vernon wants to make this the best club ever. And NOT give any material to his Swan Song!
With his camera capturing moments around the room, President Vernon is starting the year by some added fun to the meetings! Members wonder what the forced “crazy self-photos” will be utilized for! Come to the next meeting to see!
