During the Installation of President Vernon Pierce, he announced the Rotarians who are assuming roles as Lane and Committee Chairs for the 2014-15 Rotary year. We thank them for their service and following the Rotary practice of never declining the opportunity to serve.
President Vernon has said his main goal is to grow the club with increased attendance and participation in projects creating a momentum that will inherently bring new members to the club. It will take a commitment from every member to help him reach his goal. Mark your weekly calendar as "Rotary meeting" on Wednesday and come enjoy lunch, fellowship and a great program!
President Vernon Pierce has a fun new way to increase the Foundation coffers, and you can take part too! Be the person to Stump Rotary!
Send a photo of yourself from a few years back and some hints or clues that can be shared, and if no one in the room can identify you, you will stump Rotary. The honor comes with a handsome certificate, complete with the President's signature!
If, however, the members can name who is in the photo, you will NOT stump Rotary and you will owe The Beaumont Rotary Foundation a donation of $20 or more!
Rotary International has adopted a New Member Sponsor Recognition Program
The New Member Sponsor Recognition Program is an exciting new initiative approved by the Rotary International Board of Directors. It honors Rotary members who sponsor new members.
A current member who sponsors one new member will receive a recognition pin with a blue backer. As additional members are sponsored, new colored backers will be awarded to signify the sponsor’s achievement.
We will add the program to our club recognition of new member sponsors also. The first pins for our club members will be presented by Governor Don Taylor during his visit on July 30.
"Keystone Pipeline and the Canadian-US Partnership"
Paula Caldwell St-Onge
Consul General
by Rotarian John Neely
The Honourable Paula Caldwell St-Onge, Consulate General of Canada, was our Rotary Speaker today. Ms. St-Onge was introduced by W. L. Pate.
Ms. St-Onge was excited to be in Beaumont and visiting the Rotary Club of Beaumont (particularly since her dad is a Rotarian also). Ms. St-Onge employed use of a PowerPoint presentation which highlighted a tremendous partnership with the United States. Some of the points were:
Canadian imports from the USA = $14.4 billion
Canadian exports to the USA = $25.9 billion
*Jobs = over 352,000 Texas jobs are supported by trade with Canada
Canada is Texas' 2nd largest export market after Mexico
Partners In Prosperity:
-Canada/United States goods and services trade totals $734 billion, annually
-more than 8 million jobs are supported by trade with Canada
-more than 400,000 people cross the US/Canadian border annually.
Canada's Energy Endowment stretches from their East Coast, across to their West coast, with a variety of the following products from their Provinces:
-crude oil
-natural gas
-oil sands
-crude oil pipelines
-natural gas pipelines
-nuclear energy
-uranium mine
-tidal energy
-refineries
Global crude oil reserves in Canada are ranked third by the independent Oil and Gas Journal.
Canada is the largest supplier of crude oil and petroleum products to the United States. Canada is proud of their partnership with us, and has high hopes that the US government will support the mutual blessings of the Keystone XL Pipeline Project.
The Beaumont Enterprise carried a great front page story, written by Dan Wallach, about the meeting. If you did not read it, click here to access a copy. Thank you to Janna Fulbright for arranging and the Beaumont Enterprise and the local television stations for the press coverage.
