Election for 2019-2022 Board of Directors and Board of Trustees
 
On Wednesday, December 5, the membership will elect four Rotarians to serve on the Club's Board of Directors and one new trustee for the Beaumont Rotary Foundation.  The newly-elected will serve for a three-­year term beginning July 1, 2019.
 
The Nominating Committee selected qualified candidates who appear on the ballot (sample below).
 
You must be present at the meeting on December 5 to cast a ballot, according to Pat Calhoun, acting Sergeant-at-Arms, who will oversee the election.

As you consider your vote, please remember that according to the Club bylaws, a person must have been elected to a 3-year term on the Board of Directors to be selected to serve as Club President.  Article 3, Section 4 reads:  ".. the president-nominee shall have been a director elected by the membership at some time previous to his or her election."

After the Thanksgiving holiday, you will hear more about the plans for the annual Holiday Party.  You will want to save the date of Tuesday, December 18 in the evening for this special fun evening of holiday cheer. Spouses and friends are invited to join you.

Meet the Newest Rotarian in our Club! 
 
Natalee Hinson became the newest member of the Rotary Club of Beaumont on November 14.

Natalee is the Community Relations Coordinator for Bonnie Vie, a skilled nursing facility, and was proposed by Laura Winegeart.   She is a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School and has been working in the health care field for a number of years.  She has three teenage children, and loves to travel.   
 
Welcome to our newest Rotarian, Natalee!

The Interact Clubs in the District will be having the fall Mixer in a few weeks and the students are collecting items that are needed by the Rainbow Room to give to young children who have to be displaced from their home by Child Protective Services. 
 
Items being collected are:
small blankets (WalMart has them for $2.50 in the bedding department),
books for children, 
small stuff toys (no larger than 12"), 
and healthy snack food.  
 
The date of the Mixer was changed to November 29 so if you would like to help the Interact Clubs by donating one or more of the ite,s, please bring them to a meeting or to the Rotary office on or before Wednesday, November 28.

Rotary President Lynn Castle introduced Mary Poole, Chair of the Vocational Excellence Awards.  Mary Poole opened by saying,  “Prepare to be amazed as we recognize and honor this year’s recipients (12) of the Vocational Excellence Awards!“ 
 
 
Ernest Hymel, M.D., Medical Director, Baptist Hospital Regional Cancer Network
Presented by Rotarian Mary Poole
Dr. Ernie Hymel was recognized for demonstrating “Service Above Self” as he goes "above and beyond" to help patients and families deal with their cancer-related care.  A member of our Club, Dr. Hymel is also very active in many fundraising events in our community like Gift of Life and Relay for Life.  Ernie inspires and encourages the hospital staff on a daily basis.
 

Jeromy Raley, Chamber of Commerce
Presented by Rotarian Bill Allen
 Jeromy was recognized for giving “service above self” as he assisted victims of recent catastrophic storms in the Carolinas with an effort he organized and named "Comeback Coolers.”  His efforts provided 300 Comeback Coolers and greatly helped those in need.

Danny was recognized for demonstrating “service above self” as he goes the extra mile to attend to the needs of those who are grieving.  He is compassionate and caring with every family. Moreover, he is frequently stepping in to help other members of his staff when there is a task that needs to be done.
 

Stephanie Smith Spidle, Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Beaumont Campus

"Who is always 100% willing to do whatever is asked of her?"  Becky Ames asked herself that question and immediately thought of Stephanie Spidle. Stephanie always has a smile for others and was recognized for her service to everyone, the effort she makes as she makes everyone she meets feel special, and her initiative.  Stephanie is also very involved with the American Heart Association.
 

Kaitlyn Castle, Market Basket

Kaitlyn Castle was recognized for her perpetual smile, the way that she treats all customers that her she encounters, and her attitude of “service above self” to her customers at Market Basket. Kaitlyn has demonstrated her service attitude at Market Basket for over five years, and takes the pain out of grocery shopping for those who don't enjoy that task!  She knows where everything is in the store, and takes great pride in her work and serving the customer with a smile. 
 
Kelsey Craig, Service Advisor at Mike Smith Nissan
 Presented by Rotarian Karen Bourdier
Kelsey was recognized for demonstrated “service above self,” especially as she attended to the needs of customers in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.  While so many people were needing attention, Kelsey made sure that customer needs were addressed efficiently and thoroughly.  She was very friendly and never flustered, and honest even when delivering news that may not be what the customer wanted to hear.  Kelsey goes above and beyond to remember customers, make them feel welcomed and well-treated at Mike Smith's.
 
Chris Miller, Fred Miller's Unique Gifts

Joanne Brown promotes the “shop local” slogan because of Chris Miller and his staff members, Brenda and Harry.  Faced with a shopping dilemma recently, Joanne only needed to place a phone call to Chris at Fred Miller's.  He and his staff assisted her beyond any expectation!  She had a great shopping experience and recognized Chris for the great customer service she received.
 

Allen Welch, Emergency Medical Technology Program Director, LIT
Presented by Rotarian Pat Calhoun
Allen Welch was recognized for his “service above self” as he goes above and beyond sharing his knowledge and talent with the students in the LIT EMT/Paramedic Program.  He conducts training at area schools, businesses and industry.  He also volunteers at many community events, and school-related career days and health fairs, promoting a safer community.
 
Tony Alexander, United Parcel Services
Presented by Rotarian John Lee
Tony Alexander was recognized not only for his attitude of service, but his 25-years with UPS and for his willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty by mentoring younger drivers who seek him out so they can learn from him.  He is a "shining example" of doing his job efficiently and safely, and always with a smile and a friendly word for customers.  Tony has been described as the epitome of dedication to his family and his community.
 
Lois Brumley, Lamar University
Presented by Rotarian Rebekah Maxwell
Lois' service to others was recognized by Rebekah Maxwell because of her positive attitude and the way she consistently lifts others with an aura of positive radiance.   When she senses others are in need or hurting, she always tries to make a difference by offering an encouraging word or simply being someone they can talk to.  She is a hard worker and is continuing to take college classes while working full time.

Mitch recognized his dentist, John Reimers, for going beyond the routine dental care to insure the patient’s overall health and wellness, for the manner in which he conducts his practice, and for a genuine attitude of care and concern.
