The Rotary Club of Beaumont, TX, is a large and diverse fellowship of inspired business, professional, and civic leaders with significant community connections that foster the ideals of Service Above Self and high ethical standards.
Dr. Jerry Wallace is an education and community leader who has fifteen years of dedicated experience supporting local ISDs, community colleges, and universities in Southeast Texas. He currently serves as the Assistant Dean for the College of Public Service at the University of Houston-Downtown where he is responsible for creating opportunities for student enrollment, academic advising, retention efforts, graduate programs and community partnerships.
Dr. Wallace is the co-founder of the Men of L.E.G.A.C.I. and Call Me MISTER collegiate student success programs, the first in the State of Texas that create opportunities for male students of color to become teachers. His efforts work to increase college admission and enrollment for African American and Hispanic males which includes collaborating with middle schools, high schools and community colleges and establishing partnerships with community agencies, university student resources and academic departments.
He is the co-founder of the Greater Houston Area Men of Color Collegiate Symposium which hosts more than 500 students and professionals each year. He has partnered with My Brother’s Keeper, Positive Black Male, the Ascending To Men Project (HISD), Houston Community College (Men of Honor) and others in an effort to dispel the school-to-prison pipeline. Dr. Wallace is also a published scholar, has presented at numerous conferences, and supports graduate student research in areas centered around social justice, critical race theory, global and ethical leadership.
Dr. Wallace earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, Master of Education in Supervision and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Lamar University. Dr. Wallace's experience includes work in campus housing, recreation sports, academic advising, instruction, admissions and minority male recruitment. His research involves engaging male students of color to support positive experiences and promoting opportunities for career development. He is an active member of the 100 Black Men – Emerging 100 Houston Chapter, which promotes positive male leadership and role models for youth in the community, as well as being a mentor for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

- attend Rotary meetings more regularly (even if they are using Zoom!)
- recruit at least one person to join our Rotary Club
- pay Rotary dues on time
- wear Rotary membership lapel pin often
- make a contribution to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation
- subscribe to the "Show Your Colors" flag project
- volunteer to help put out flags on holidays
- make a donation to The Rotary Foundation to help eradicate polio
- volunteer to serve on at least one club committee
- assist with the District 5910 Conference in April

Beaumont Rotary is implementing a brand-new partnership with Lamar University SOAR Program. SOAR is an acronym for Student Occupationally and Academically Ready. Your question: what are they doing and where do I fit in? There are 4 schools in BISD that are NEST campuses, they are Pietsch MacArthur, Amelia, Charlton Pollard, and Blanchette. NEST is an acronym for Navigating Excellence Success and Triumph. The space for the NEST is provided by BISD and the NEST are staffed by volunteers from Lamar University and our local industry.
LU SOAR is made up from LU Student leaders, athletes, Lamar Rotaract, the collaborative partners which are Entergy, ExxonMobil, Mason Construction, and the newest is the Rotary Club of Beaumont. We will work with struggling readers in a non-stressful, non-intimidating way to help improve their reading skills. The virtual books are shared on the screen. We just need you to commit 15 – 30 minutes when you are able. Since it is virtual, you do not have to leave your office, worksite, or home.
Lynn Hill, Rotary Goes to School Chair, says, "As soon as I am given the schedule for the needs of the time slots for the campuses, I will pass the information along to the Rotarians, and you can sign up where you can. It’s that simple.
