"Yesterday is gone; it’s today! No excuses, we need to be certain that we are moving forward," Butler said to his team who gathered to meet him and learn of his expectations soon after his appointment as Interim Superintendent of BISD.
Butler is no stranger to challenges in the educational system. He is credited with several successes in transformational leadership, some dating back to his days as principal of the then troubled Bel Air High in Ysleta ISD. Bel Air was later recognized under Butler’s leadership as a U.S. Department of Education blue ribbon school.
"I am committed to guiding the Beaumont Independent School District toward success. I believe with an unrelenting effort on the part of all employees and with the continued support of stakeholders, Beaumont ISD can meet and exceed the academic and financial targets at which it must arrive. Beaumont ISD must remain a viable educational institution," Butler explained.

On Monday, August 4th, Rotarians gathered at the Event Center and the Rotary Centennial Playground and had a grand time reading and looking at books with children of all ages. The media was out and our own club photographers captured the fun as well.
Thank you to Nakisha Myles and Judy Kelfstrom for the great photos. See them all here.

There was enthusiastic applause and a standing ovation as three new members were welcomed to the Rotary Club of Beaumont on Wednesday, July 30 as the newest Rotarians in the world, proclaimed by District Governor Don Taylor.
Pictured below (left to right):
Norma Sampson, Executive Director of the Julie Roger's Gift of Life Program, who was proposed by Becky Mason;
Sheree Pierce, also proposed by Becky Mason, and is Director of Neighborhood Ministries for Wesley United Methodist Church; and,
Jason Armstrong, Owner/Manager of the UPS Stores, was proposed to return to membership in the club after a brief absence by Randy Fluke.
The New Member Sponsor Recognition Program is an exciting new initiative approved by the Rotary International Board of Directors. It honors Rotary members who sponsor new members.
All sponsors of members admitted to Rotary are eligible to receive a specially designed membership pin and colored pin backer from Rotary in recognition of their commitment to the organization’s membership growth. A current member who sponsors one new member will receive a recognition pin with a blue backer. As additional members are sponsored, new colored backers will be awarded to signify the sponsor’s achievement.
Recognized at the last meeting and receiving the first new recognition pins in our club were:
Randy Fluke for proposing one newly admitted member and
Becky Mason for proposing two newly admitted members.
Becky and Randy are pictured with the District Governor (far left) and the new members they proposed.
President Vernon Pierce has a fun new way to increase the Foundation coffers, and you can take part too! Be the person to Stump Rotary!
Send a photo of yourself from a few years back and some hints or clues that can be shared. If no one in the room can identify you, you will stump Rotary. The honor comes with a handsome certificate, complete with the President's signature!
If, however, the members can name who is in the photo, you will NOT stump Rotary and you will owe The Beaumont Rotary Foundation a donation of $20 or more! That's what happened to this adorable bunny!
The Rotary speaker today was our own District Governor Don Taylor, who was introduced by Past District Governor Chuck Mason.
District Governor Taylor began his remarks by stating that "being the Governor for District 5910 has been a tremendously rewarding, and wonderful experience." Don also verified something that Chuck Mason announced to the entire Rotary gathering as he introduced the Governor, "years ago, his wife, Barbara, really DID pick him up!"
Governor Taylor stated, "I bring you greetings from Rotary International, as well as Rotary International President Gary Huang, whose slogan is "Light Up Rotary." President Huang must have admired club President Vernon Pierce's Rotary and Entergy association!
Don went on to say, "you may like Rotary for the speakers....
....you may like Rotary for the fellowship....maybe for the service projects, and maybe for the friendships.....or any combination of them.....it doesn't matter... your participation parallels what Confucius said: "It is better to light ONE candle,
than to curse the darkness." Our enthusiasm about who we are, and the service projects that our club performs, is one of the best ways to attract new members."
"In the past ten years, Rotary has added over a million members....yet, our numbers remain generally the same, mainly because members fade away. The more we are involved in community projects that our media report on, the more our existing members will be inspired to serve.
Governor Taylor talked about the "life-cycle" of business and related it to Rotary membership:
1)New member excitement (hard-working)
2) Dwindling enthusiasm (coasting)
3) Resting on our laurels (complacency or loss of relevance)
4) Go or Grow (either re-start at #1 or vanish)
Together, we grow develop, mature, and serve.
Clubs should set aside time each week to find ways to inform our communities of what Rotary is and how we benefit the community.
