Because of new procedures being implemented by Rotary International regarding dues payments, the Club must tighten up our practices of dues collection as well. Invoices will be sent earlier, as they were in June, and payments will be expected within 30 days. Those who have not paid on the first day of the dues cycle will receive a repeat invoice. The Board will review membership payments monthly.
Invoices for July-December 2014 dues were sent electronically to all active members on June 2. Please check your email for it. If you did not receive the invoice, you will want to check your "spam" folder or phone the office. If you need a paper copy of your invoice sent to you or your company's accounting department, please contact the office at 842-1913 for assistance.
Please make note that payment is due by tomorrow, July 1, as the club is invoiced by Rotary International for all members on the roll on that date. Your payment can be processed through the online secure payment center on the homepage of the website in the right column.
Please plan now to take part! You'll still have plenty of time for festivities later in the day after putting out flags.
Delivery Teams:
We have added some new subscriptions and regrettably lost a few too! Please check your map carefully and make sure to alter your "usual" route to include the changes. Remember to bring a hammer please.
It might be a new Rotary year but the effort to eradicate polio from the globe will continue until complete.
We will continue our support of this effort by sending money donated for "End Polio Now" to Rotary International from the Rotary Club of Beaumont. Our goal for the year is $2500.
You can help by donating your change and coins to the Pink Polio Pig which will be "visiting" every meeting. Dollar bills and your checks to The Rotary Foundation are accepted too!
Sadly, the eagerly anticipated riverboat tour down the Neches River for Rotary After Hours had to be postponed due to the threat of bad weather conditions. However, excitement rebounded quickly as everyone learned the fun would go on at the home of Bobbie Applegate and Joe Pizzo. The group had a great time, warm fellowship and delicious snacks too. Thank you to Bobbie for opening her home and to those who supplied food and beverages.
Ever wonder why the Rotary year begins 1 July? The international convention initially played a key role in determining the start date of our fiscal and administrative year.
Rotary's first fiscal year began the day after the first convention ended, on 18 August 1910. The 1911-12 fiscal year also related to the convention, beginning with the first day of the 1911 convention on 21 August.
At its August 1912 meeting, the Board of Directors ordered an audit of the International Association of Rotary Clubs' finances. The auditors recommended that the organization end its fiscal year on 30 June to give the secretary and treasurer time to prepare a financial statement for the convention and board, and determine the proper number of club delegates to the convention.
The executive committee concurred, and at its April 1913 meeting, designated 30 June as the end of the fiscal year. This also allowed for changes to the schedule for reporting club membership and payments.
BBB President John Paschall delivered the invocation, begging for the return of our Rotary bell so we can "get rid of Chad."
As the program began, John explained in a special Marketplace Minute that the BBB is greatly concerned about the recent scam involving the stealing of Rotary bells. "LIT President Paul Szuch" shared one of his classic jokes, and "Craig Escamilla" suggested forming a "strategic bell finding committee."
"Dr. Szuch" continued with more of his "outstanding" comedy. "Craig" reluctantly invited "Slate Babineaux" to join the strategic committee, but insisted that "Becky Mason", who just happened to actually be in attendance, serve on the committee. "Becky" kindly reiterated many of the wonderful, successful projects and programs during the centennial year; none of which included losing the club's bell. "Dr. Szuch" and John regaled the members in attendance with more jokes and scam alerts. "Vernon Pierce" joined in the search, since it affects his Rotary year, and kindly demonstrated his ability to fill in for ANY fellow Rotarian. John alerted us to another scam that involves missing people. "Chad" was very concerned about the missing bell. Foreign exchange student, "Pauline" kindly returned the missing bell after which a "flash mob" of sorts celebrated the return of the bell. Bill Munro quickly came looking for Chad out of a desperate need for him to get back to work!
The Swan Song concluded with an acknowledgement of the cast, and special presentations to President Chad and his family.
