Election for 2018-2021 Board of Directors and Board of Trustees
On Wednesday, December 6, the membership will elect four Rotarians to serve on the Club's Board of Directors and one new trustee for the Beaumont Rotary Foundation. The newly-elected will serve for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2018.
The Nominating Committee selected qualified candidates who appear on the ballot sample. The sample ballot will appear in the RotaryGrams again next Monday and copies will be on the tables at the meeting on November 29.
You must be present at the meeting on December 6 to cast a ballot, according to Michele Cobb, Sergeant-at-Arms, who will oversee the election.

Chair Twila Baker announced the date of Saturday, December 9 as the day when Rotarians will work the kettle at the main entrance of Parkdale Mall.
Rotarians and friends who volunteer are asked to work for a one-hour shift between the hours of 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
We want to have a minimum of two people for each shift, but the more the merrier!
Aprons and bells will be provided!

The Disaster Recovery project Rotarians helped with on Friday, November 17 andSaturday, November 18 means a mom and her three children are now able to again refer to their house as "Home, Sweet Home!"
Chair Mahdi Safa (left) was able to combine and utilize the best skills of Rotarians and Lamar Construction Management students, and in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity, the project was overwhelmingly successful.

DUES INVOICING AND THE BILLING CYCLE
Rotary operates financially at the club, district, and international levels. Dues, along with contributions to the Beaumont Rotary Foundation, support the work done at each level. Dues are billed to the individual at the club level, andthe club pays District and International dues on behalf of every member who is on the membership roster on January 1 and July 1.
In order for the club to pay dues to Rotary International and District 5910 on January 1, each member must be up to date on his/her dues to the Club no later than December 29, in advance of the January 1 assessment by Rotary International.
If your July 1 dues are still unpaid on Friday, December 29, you will be terminated in bad-standing, meaning you are ineligible for membership in this or any other Rotary Club until your past due amount has been paid.
In order to make it as convenient as possible for you to submit a timely payment, the Board of Directors has requested that the invoices be sent to members 30-45 days in advance so that each member has adequate time to budget for the expense, process payment, and assure that the invoice is paid by January 1, 2018.
You will receive your invoice electronically on November 21. If you requested to have a printed copy mailed to you, it should be received within the week. Please phone the office or email admin@beaumontrotaryclub.org to request a different method of billing or payment.
If you wish, you can submit your credit card information to be kept on file so that payments are processed for you in advance of the deadline.

BECOME A PAUL HARRIS FELLOW OR A MULTIPLE PHF
Have you considered becoming a Paul Harris Fellow or perhaps adding another Paul Harris Fellow to those you have earned? A Paul Harris Fellow can be earned by a combined contribution of dollars and points totaling 1,000.
If you have ever given money or if money has been given in your name to The Rotary International Foundation, you have an account balance. If that balance reaches 1,000 through additional money or point contributions, you will become a Paul Harris Fellow or a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.
The Beaumont Rotary Club has points which the Board of Directors will consider using to match your contribution so that your balance plus additional contributions plus points equals 1,000. Call the Executive Director at 409-842-1913 to determine what additional contributions you must make by December 31, 2017, in order to take advantage of this offer.
All such donations are tax-deductible, but must be received by December 31 for 2017 taxes. (Please make note that December 31 is on Sunday.)

2017 Vocational Excellence Awards

On Wednesday, November 15, 2017, the Rotary Club of Beaumont held the annual and eagerly-anticipated Vocational Excellence Award program. Individuals were nominated by Rotarians. This year, nine individuals who exemplify a “Service Above Self” attitude in the performance of their job were recognized and honored. These coveted awards are given annually to members of the community who demonstrate "exceptional service, high ethical standards and professional achievements in the spirit of the Rotary Four Way Test."
The 2017 recipients were:
Sara Gubala and her sidekick, Kennedy
Sara Gubala, instructor of political science at Lamar University, and her springer spaniel, Kennedy, have a way of brightening up a room. Through their service at Baptist Hospital, they have brought smiles to children and seniors and helped motivate injured patients toward recovery. Most recently, they spent countless hours helping folks deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in Port Arthur. Sara and Kennedy were nominated by Mary Poole.
Dr. Donna Prudhomme
A wonderful example of "Service Above Self," Dr. Donna Prudhomme leads by example on the Clifton J. Ozen High School campus using her organization skills to motivate young students. She gives of her time, talent, and resources to inspire students. Dr. Prudhomme was nominated by Sean M. Perrodin.
Larry Payne & Bobby Frank
Larry Payne and Bobby Frank are famous in Beaumont for making a difference to the hundreds who see them at work every school day of the year. Both are crossing guards who put their hearts into their work, making sure that children are safe. You can’t put a price on that or on the number of smiles they have put on faces as they wave at every car that passes in the Marshall school zone. Larry and Bobby were nominated by Regina Lindsey, CEO of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce.
Marcia Alexander
Originally from Trinidad, Tobago, Marcia Alexander is the owner & designer of Alterations and Designs. Marcia was recognized for her wonderful attitude and her attention to detail in her work. She was described as innovative and meticulous, and is an asset to Beaumont. Marcia was nominated by Marcia Crone.
Helen Cathey
Helen Cathey, the store manager at Sears in Parkdale Mall, was presented with a momentous opportunity/task, and made it possible for Rotarians to complete the goal of getting 620 pairs of shoes/footgear for students at Martin Elementary following the flooding Harvey brought to the Pine Street neighborhood. Helen was nominated by both Becky Mason and Rosie Delano who spearheaded the project.
Andy Gardner
Andy Gardner works at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, and was the “eyes & ears” of hurricane-related issues at the Museum during and following the Harvey flooding in the area. The Executive Director could not immediately return to Jefferson County during Harvey, and Andy repeatedly performed site-inspections to report any damage or issue. Andy proactively assembled a team of volunteers which elevated all of the artwork at least 3-feet off ground-level as a precaution. He was recognized for his dedication and "Service Above Self" by Lynn Castle.
Dale Rutherford
Dale Rutherford, store manager at White’s Tires, was recognized for providing excellent service to customers. Dale’s courteous and friendly personality, as well as his automotive expertise, provides customers with cost-saving solutions. Dale was nominated by Pat Anderson.
Carlo Busceme, III
Beloved Beaumont philanthropist and "rock" of the Busceme family, Carlo Busceme, III, died in September 2017. Carlo Busceme, 65, was president of the Texas Coffee Company, known for Seaport Coffee and TexJoy seasoning and spices, and a regular contributor to the Southeast Texas Arts Council, the Art Studio, Inc., the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, and various other arts and community organizations throughout the area. He was on the board of the Symphony of Southeast Texas and Magnolia Cemetery. Carlo has often been described as a "powerful light in the community," and "one of the kindest souls I've ever encountered" and a "bright, shining light." Carlo was a devout Christian, and a member of St. Anne Parish. His family was the center of his life, and he will be missed by all. Carlo was nominated posthumously by Doug Fair, and the award was presented to his son, Carlo Busceme, IV.
Mary Poole, Marketing Director for Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, was this year’s Chair and facilitator. Mary’s enthusiasm for vocational excellence, as well as the work that she does, infused Rotarians and recipients alike.
