We have all seen the changes in print media over the recent decade as social media quickly took over nearly every aspect of our lives. To learn more about how the industry has made changes and adapted to the market, we have a man with his "finger on the pulse" of the issue. Meet Mark Adkins, Publisher of the Beaumont Enterprise.
With over 32 years experience in digital and print media, Mark Adkins was the president of the San Francisco Çhronicle and the Bay Area website, SFgate.com. He was responsible for leading one of the most successful newspaper industry turnarounds in recent history for Hearst in the San Francisco area.
Mark is currently vice president of Hearst Community
Newspapers Texas. He is the active publisher for the Beaumont Enterprise, Beaumontenterprise.com, VIP magazine and the regions largest website, SoutheastTexas.com. He has oversight of newspapers, magazines and websites in Laredo, Midland, Jasper and five other smaller communities in Texas.

Brandon Creighton, Texas Senator representing District 4, will be the guest speaker on October 26. He will speak on the "State of the State."
The first week of November has been designated as World Interact Week! On November 2, we will join with the two Interact Clubs we sponsor and celebrate their efforts and commitment to Service Above Self.

Interact Clubs Need Donations
The Interact Clubs are again collecting supplies to create gifts for others. They request toilet paper rolls to fill with goodies, trinkets, and treats for local nursing homes and hospitals. They can also use left over gift wrapping paper, ribbons and yarn to tie the ends of these treats. Sheree Pierce, sponsor of the West Brook Club, asks that you bring items to the club meetings and/or the Rotary Office before November 10 so she can make a delivery to the Interact Mixer.

On Wednesday, everyone hummed along as Lynn sang specially written lyrics to "I Can See Clearly Now" for Joanne Brown. Joanne graduated with a Bachelor of Rotary Science degree and is on her way to a Masters degree as well! Congratulations on the new Blue Badge, Joanne!

"Tales from a Texas Ranger"

Joe Haralson is a Texas Ranger, based in Texas City. He joined the Rangers in 1981 and is currently the longest serving Texas Ranger.
The Texas Rangers were originally established in 1823 by Stephen F. Austin and they are the longest serving police agency in the country with statewide jurisdiction. There are currently 150 Rangers that specialize in major criminal investigations, public corruption, narcotics, cold cases, and border security. The Texas Rangers have concurrent jurisdiction, not superior jurisdiction in Texas. They work with other agencies rather than as a superior force.
