There are so many good things being done around the world by Rotarians in partnership with clubs in Third World countries through the Global Grant program of The Rotary Foundation. This week's meeting focus will be sharing information about those projects and how they are helping to improve the lives of others around the globe.
This is not a presentation to ask for donations. This program will beautifully illustrate the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self."

Mark your calendar for the next Read With Rotary! Everyone is excited to begin planning for this fun opportunity to spread the joy of reading on Monday, October 6. Mark your calendar for a "lunch date" with some preschoolers from 11:00-12:30 at the Centennial Playground.
It is a Wednesday and you are already planning to attend Rotary on October 15, but make note that it will be the annual Rotary Goes to Work meeting. You will choose a fellow Rotarian's place of business to visit that day. Like Paul Harris and the other original Rotarians, we will "rotate" to another member's business locale to learn about their vocation.

The District's Group Study Exchange Chairman is actively recruiting some team members from Beaumont! There has not been an applicant from our Club in over two years and this would be a great year to have a member of the team from here. Please read the requirements below as this is NOT for a Rotarian but someone you work with, a child of someone you know, or a friend from church may be interested and be a great applicant to enjoy this grand experience!
The GSE Team Member applicants must:

2. Be between the age of 25 and 40 at the time of application
3. Be currently employed
4. Live or work in D5910
5. Complete and submit the application/commitment form by September 30

"Security in our Times: How to be Prepared in Business"
Anne Figuerias
Former FBI Agent
by Rotarian Chris Ayers
Anne Figuerias is a graduate of Kelly High School, Texas A&M and is a former FBI special agent. She was born and raised in Beaumont and after her recent retirement from the FBI has started to work as the corporate security analyst for The Modern Group.
While working for the FBI, Anne worked on tasks ranging from corporate fraud, white collar crime, international crime and even worked undercover. Anne’s topic for Rotary this week was to discuss the need for businesses to address cyber security issues. She stated that every business will eventually endure a cyber attack from hackers. The FBI can’t prevent these attacks and needs help from private citizens to curtail these crimes. Recently the FBI has developed the Domestic Security Alliance Council (DSAC) which brings together 200 businesses to discuss security topics and prevention methods.
The two most recent attacks are named Black Shades Malware and Game Over Zeus. The combined damage for these two viruses is estimated to be over $100 million. The FBI strives to identify threats and works to deter criminal activities. Anne stated that the best way to help in these tasks is to be proactive, train employees proper computer security, utilize non-disclosure agreements and to analyze physical security. By doing this, individuals can help minimize trade secret infringement and minimize the dissemination of trade secrets. Recently DuPont and Goodyear were hacked by a group that was sponsored by China. Anne stated that the greatest weapon to fight a cyber and security threat is to work with the FBI.
