As a sought after guest conductor, Tipton has appeared with numerous major orchestras in the United States (and Europe), including the Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Houston Symphony, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana (Palermo), Dohnanyi Symphony Orchestra (Budapest), Atlanta Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Louisiana Philharmonic, Nashville Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic and the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra among others.
In addition to his performances as the Maestro of the Symphony of Southeast Texas, Chelsea Tiptonhas conducted in Carnegie Hall conducting the Sphinx Competition Showcase gala concert that was the culmination of a ten-city tour with the orchestra. Other highlights include a last minute replacement for Robert Spano to conduct an all-Gershwin season finale with the Brooklyn Philharmonic. The New York Times applauded Tipton for "leading sweeping and vibrant performances of ‘Rhapsody’ and ‘An American in Paris.’”

Robert J. Robertson is known as an historian on many topics but none is as close to his heart as researching and writing about the civil rights movement in Texas and particularly in the southeast Texas area. He is an expert on some of the people who made significant change including, and particularly, Judge Lamar Cecil who was the key player in the desegregation of Lamar Tech in 1964. You need to be present on September 21 to hear this story.
We are all in search of good health. How to maintain it? How to achieve it? Local internal medicine physician and expert on healthy living, Dr. Msonthi B. Levine, will speak to the Club on September 28, sharing some of his tips and advice on the subject.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT ANNOUNCED!
Karyn Hawkins, Chair, has announced the next community service project, and this one is going to be another fun time! On Monday morning, September 19, Rotarians and volunteers are going to the museum!
That's right! The Beaumont Children's Museum is calling for our best volunteers to help build an area they call a "Maker Space" where children and adults can explore how things are made, how they work, and how they are built. It's a creative space for learning, exploring, and experimenting together. The area needs walls to define the work space and to close it off from the rest of the museum. Even if you can't build structures, you can paint! Come out and share in the fun.
The project needs to be done when the museum is closed to visitors. That means Monday morning is the best time to get this job done! Mark your calendar now for Monday, September 19 from 8:00 a.m. until Noon.

The second annual "Wine Down With Rotary" fundraiser will be on Thursday, October 6. There will NOT be a Rotary meeting on October 5 so this event will substitute for the meeting of the week.
Get your tickets to attend and some to sell to friends and co-workers at the meeting this week or phone the Rotary Office. You will taste six wonderful wines as selected for your enjoyment by a panel of wine experts, an appetizer pairing for each of the wines selected, jazz music by Toby Castro and his combo, an opportunity to take a chance on winning some fabulous raffle items and some of the best fellowship in town! This year, Wine Down With Rotary will be a celebration of the Centennial of The Rotary Foundation. We will recognize the good works of Rotary through the 100 years of the Foundation.

Scenes from
"My Fair Lady"

Club members were treated to selections from the stage production of "MY FAIR LADY," being directed by Paula Bothe. The Beaumont Community Players production opens on Friday, September 9th and will be presented on three consecutive weekends ending Saturday, September 24.
This is the first production of Beaumont Community Players this season and looks to be a crowd pleaser. Tickets are still available online or by phone in the ticket office. 409-833-64664 or beaumontcommunityplayers.com.
“Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” was sung by Natalie Cardona as Eliza Doolittle.
“Get Me to the Church on Time” was performed by Patrick Anderson who plays Alfred P. Doolittle. (Patrick is the son of past president Pat Anderson.)
“I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face” was sung by the character Henry Higgins as played by Peter Morrison.
Eliza (Natalie Cardona) ended the performance with a wonderful rendition of “I Could Have Danced All Night.” She assured us that she could.
The singers were accompanied by Walter LaForge. Bobby Chapman, past president of the Spindletop Rotary Club, is the conductor for the show.
All attending had to agree, Beaumont Community Players is truly a “jewel of the community.”
