It's here! It's finally here! The Club has been in the planning process for nearly a year and on Friday, May 1, we get to welcome the Conference delegates to "Spotlight on District 5910" right here in Beaumont.
There is a huge number of club members working on the District Conference Committee and on the many facets of such a complex event. Due to the number of Rotarians involved in the preparations and as registered participants, President Vernon Pierce has dispensed with the weekly meeting on Wednesday, April 29 at the Elegante.
There are final preparations to make and some aspects of the weekend when more volunteer participation is welcomed. Phone the Rotary Office and let us know when you can help and your work will be considered a makeup for the meeting.

The roses were blooming at the McFaddin-Ward House Museum on Thursday, April 23! Refreshments were plentiful and delicious, and the conversation was lively and pleasant.
Thank you to Allen Lea and his staff for warmly welcoming Rotarians, spouses, and friends and providing the lovely evening of fellowship.
The “Spotlight on District 5910" conference is predicted to be a huge success because of the work of a large group of dedicated volunteers and, in large part, to generous donors and sponsors. Thank you for the financial assistance to "Light Up Rotary" and District 5910 even brighter!

The newest graduate of Rotary University with a Bachelor of Rotary Science and a Blue Badge is Sharae Bassett Reed (pictured center). Dean Lynn Castle made everyone "Happy" with a rendition of the song by the same name with custom words and accompanying clapping! Pictured with Sharae is her sponsor, Bridget Johnson (left) and Dean Lynn Castle (right).
In case you are not aware, even long-time Rotarians can earn advanced degrees. Who will be the first in a long while to earn a Master or Ph.D. in Rotary Science?
These precious keepsakes were received from some of the school children who were so appreciative of the Dr. Seuss books and the Rotarians who took the time to come and read to them. Take some time to enjoy them.
Nearly 300 Rotarians, spouses, Rotaract members, and special guests will be in Beaumont for the 2015 District 5910 Conference.
Rotary District 5910 is made up of 40 clubs in a large portion of Texas, and the annual event is a real celebration of the year's accomplishments and successes. The Committee, chaired by Becky Mason, has devoted many hours to making the conference a huge success. You need to be a part!

OnWednesday, our Rotary club celebrated Rotary Youth and New Generations programs. Rotarians were challenged and invigorated by the reports of their year of accomplishments!
West Brook Interact President, MaretMontanari, described some of their volunteer projects which included: Gift of Life 5K run, helping at Some Other Place, volunteering for the American Cancer Relay for Life, providing school supplies to children in Honduras, just to name a few.
The Kelly Interact President, Morgan Steward, talked about how their club provided supplies and memory books to our troops overseas. They also facilitated families making audio recordings and sending these recordings to their sons and daughters, in the military, overseas.
Dr. Teresa Simpson spoke about Lamar University’s Rotaract club. They apparently were also very busy. Members of Rotaract volunteered at the Food Bank, Girls Haven and the BBB’s “Shred It and Forget It” campaign. They also carried on the tradition of the “Cardinal Swap”, where a student from Lamar changes places with Dr. Ken Evans for a day. Dr. Evans got to wear a backpack and go to classes while the lucky student got to “run” Lamar University for a day.
Michael Perez introduced Brittany Cockrell to talk about RYLA. Brittany talked about how RYLA helped her learn about teamwork and leadership. She said that these experiences will help her become a better leader in the future. In addition, she made many new friends and had a wonderful time.
Allen Lea was the final speaker. Allen, and his committee, was in charge of choosing this year’s scholarship recipients. Each year, our Rotary club gives out two $8000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors, whose activities match up best to the core beliefs of Rotary. This year Maret Montanari and Kenrick Marks, Jr. were the recipients. Maretwill be attending the University of Alabama while Kenrick will be attending college in Lafayette, LA.
