Congratulations to Rotary University Graduates!

It was the first Graduation done by new Rotary University Dean Uliana Trylowsky and it was exciting! A Bachelor of Rotary Science degree was conferred to Amy Dansby and a Doctor of Philosophy degree was awarded to Deborah Drago!

Amy Dansby earned her new blue badge in record time but it came as no surprise.  Amy, who is sometimes called "Ames," has been extremely active since joining the club in mid-April.  She was a key member of the Rotary Goes to School team of volunteers and demonstrated "Service Above Self multiple times on the "Show Your Colors" flag project.   She served on the committee that planned the final meeting of the 2018-2019 year.

New Blue Badge Amy Dansby is pictured receiving badge and diploma from President Joe Domino.

Deborah Drago earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Rotary Science degree from Rotary University, presenting the challenge to other members to do the same.  Deborah served as Chair of the Community Service Projects committee in 2018-19.  Of course, she will forever be known as the Chair of Many Costumes! to us.   A dedicated Rotarian, Deborah earned Perfect Attendance in 2018-19.

Doctor Deborah Drago receives her Ph.D. from President Joe Domino.

If you are not aware, you should know even long-time Rotarians can earn advanced degrees.  Who is the next Master of Rotary Science or Ph.D. degree candidate?  Talk with Rotary University Dean, Uliana Trylowsky, about the next step in your Rotary education.

Youngest Paul Harris Recipients in the Club

At the Rotary Club meeting on July 24th, Rotarians witnessed as two lovely young ladies were named Paul Harris Fellows.  PDG Roger and Sharon McCabe presented their grandaughters, Heidi Grace McCabe and Reese Caroline McCabe, with the coveted Paul Harris Fellow recognition.  We think Heidi and Reese are probably the youngest to ever receive this recognition presented by a member of our club.

PROGRAM REVIEW
July 24, 2019

"The Lutcher Theater's 40th Anniversary Season"
Gisela Houseman
Board Member

and
Lynae Sanford
Managing Director
Lutcher Theater
by Bobbie Applegate

Giesla Houseman believes that the Lutcher Theatre is the “Jewel of Southeast Texas” and the “Home of Off Broadway”.  She added that being a member of the Board has been a great experience and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and hard working.

Lynae Sanford’s topic “The Making of the Season” was interesting to hear.  The next year’s season starts for the Lutcher in September, possibly even before the current season begins.  Two conferences per year allow Lynae an opportunity to meet with agents and discuss available routing for performances in Orange that allow the agents to route performers and plays to the area for a one-night performance that meets the budget criteria for the organization.   A Broadway play will normally cost between $65,00 and $75,000 guarantee.  The routing schedules are usually finalized in April and part of May.  The theatre almost always deals with official national Broadway tours as well presents other performing artists.  The Lutcher has the largest performing season between New Orleans and Houston with a 1.5 million budget for performance and a 1.5 to 2 million budget for operations.

Lutcher Theatre, Inc is a non-profit organization.  This season’s awesome performances include:
Croce on CroceOctober 5
Symphony of SE Texas (Shangri La)October 20
Jersey BoysOctober 29
Bandstand    November 8
Georgia on My Mind (music of Ray Charles)November 23
Shane & Shane & Phil Wickham December 2

Farewell AngelinaJanuary 25
An American in ParisMarch 8
Beautiful – The Carole King MusicalMarch 19
Fiddler on the RoofMarch 30
Viva Momix April 5

Season tickets are now on sale with single tickets available on August 19th for this packed season.  The season is diverse and should have something for everyone.
