Arty's Friday Food Bag Program

We stock and supply a food panty to Feed Hungry Tummies Over the Weekend for Undernourished Students.

 

Some years ago there was a call to Rotary for action by a school parent who was at the time currently servicing 20 students, by organizing distribution from the basement of her home.  The school was in need of a bigger pantry with easy access and food donations to expand the program.

 

With much consideration on the sustainability of the program and the benefit to the community by the club members, the Littleton Rotary Club, with funding from the Littleton Rotary Foundation as well as the school's PTO, decided to take on the project.

 

Each week during the school year a champion for this project plans the menu, takes pantry items inventory, buys items needed if not already in the stocked pantry and coordinates with club members to staff the bagging of the groceries and also enlists a driver to load and drive the food bags to school.  Once the bags are at the school, a faculty member distributes the bags to the appropriate class rooms.

 

On long weekends and breaks from school, heartier bags are compiled to accommodate the longer than usual dates the kids will be out of school. 

 

Rain, snow, sleet or hail Rotarians travel to the pantry to make sure the bags are filled and delivered to the school to make sure the kids in need are not left to go hungry. The Littleton Rotary Foundation supports this program awarding ~$6,000.00 per school year for shelf stable grocery items and fresh fruit.
