Club President Belinda "B" Bianchi presents Douglas County Deputy Sheriff Michael Doyle with Vocational Service Award.
The members of the Rotary Club of Littleton gathered at a recent special evening meeting to honor a member of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Michael Doyle. On December 31, 2017, Michael and four other deputies were first responders to a 911 domestic violence call. The results were tragic for all involved.
One Deputy lost his life and Michael and three others suffered significant injuries. Too often these events are lost in the "here today, gone tomorrow" coverage of the media. Rotarians embrace their motto, Service Above Self in the same manner that those men and women serving in our law enforcement and fire agencies do on a daily basis. In recognition of that selfless service in helping provide a safe living environment for us all, the Littleton Rotary Club presented Deputy Doyle, as representative of all involved in the tragic incident, with Rotary's Vocational Service Award. The following is the text of the President's remarks:
"Tonight, the Littleton Rotary Club has the privilege and honor of welcoming Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy, Michael Doyle. Michael was one of the first-responders to a 911 domestic violence call on December 31 of last year. The results of that incident were tragic for all involved.
Deputy Doyle is here this evening to receive recognition for his his selfless service to society through his vocational service and for his actions in the life threatening incident. Too often communities take for granted the daily services performed by the men and women who comprise our “safety nets”; the police and fire personal who daily put their lives on the line for the safety of all.
Over 35,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and territories work tirelessly in their communities and globally to enhance education, provide clean water, promote economic opportunities for underdeveloped communities, immunize children against polio and other childhood diseases, and promote peace through understanding.
Rotarians do this through their collective vocations and the application of the Rotary motto: Service Above Self. Deputy Doyle, you as well as your colleagues, certainly exemplify that motto. On behalf of the Rotary Club of Littleton and a grateful community, we hereby award you the Rotary Vocational Service Award for your faithful service to the highest standards of your profession."
