President Brad introduced our speaker Kim Grant to talked about the Children's Center In Bethany.  She spoke about her personal experience with her own child.  Her son was declared brain dead but the day before they were to turn off the machines but he made a recovery and his brain scans came back normal.  He has to live at the Children's Center for his ventilator dependent.  She introduced Uwe Von Schamann who was born and raised in Germany.  He was a member of the OU Football team and after college played for Miami Dolphins.
Besides his football experience he is now a presenter for the Children's Center.  His love for children with special needs goes back for many years.  The Children Center goes back to 1898 and Mattie Mallory's orphans.  She found it her calling to stay in Oklahoma City and help all the homeless children.  She bought a home with her dad's pocket watch and started the orphanage.  Over the years and grand money the home that was threatened to be shut down at one point is now a beautiful building for the children.
There is about 120 beds there and the average stay is about two years.  About 350 inpatients.  There are 555 employees.  The kids are not in hospital gowns.  They dress them up and they do their hair every day.  They are in the midst of a campaign to add a 4 story building so they can reach more children.  There is a long waiting list.  They have an Activities and Daily living center.  A building
He then played a video about the Children's Center
