NRA’s Darren DeLong, right, fielded questions after the July 21 meeting.

July 21 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha

The July 21 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and a song.
In a case of déjà vu all over again, Chris Mosley was once against handing out fines in place of the absent Sgt of Arms Jim Allen.
John Gorton was Rotarian of the Day. He introduced veteran NRA Oklahoma field rep Darren DeLong as our guest speaker.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) promotes the shooting sports and works to protect the right to keep and bear arms. True to its founding purpose, the association continues to emphasize its role as a training and educational organization. However, today the NRA is primarily known for its political efforts against gun-control laws that would threaten the Second Amendment–rights of gun owners.
But Friends of NRA is a 501-3-C non-political arm of NRA,which raises money for the NRA Foundation.
DeLong said the NRA Foundation allocates half of all net proceeds to fund projects within the state in which the money was raised and uses the other half to fund similar projects with a national scope.
Committee volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees to make recommendations for local grant funding in areas such as youth firearm safety and education programs, hunter education, range development and improvement, women’s training seminars, and wildlife conservation efforts. Recognizing that America's young people represent the future of the shooting sports, State Fund Committee grants are frequently given to youth programs in 4-H and FFA, allocating more than 50% of grant monies to this important area.
The meeting closed with recitation of the Rotary 4-way test.
