Main Street Chickasha Director Laurie Allen was guest speaker at the 8-9-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha.


The 8-9-2012 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and song.

Guests included James Bright and Logan and Tanner Tibbetts, who after eating on their father's dime all summer will be going back to school next week.

Prayer concerns include Bill Hodges and a report from Julius Haralson that Ann is on the mend.

Prospective new members include Mitch Williams and Scott Biggs.

President Cody White announced that the board meeting had been moved to Monday, 8-13 at the First National Bank Community Room.

Cody reported by the Rock Island Arts Festival is scheduled for Sept. 28-30 and the club has been asked to provide volunteers. More coming on that later, he said.

Nathan Donald was Rotarian of the Day and introduced Laurie Allen, the newly appointed director of Main Street Chickasha.

Laurie is an enthusiastic cheerleader for Chickasha and specifically the Main Street district which has as its boundaries Choctaw on the North, Kansas on the South, 8th on the West and 1st on the East.

But Laurie said for Main Street to be successful she is reaching out to all of Chickasha.

"When you vista a town you want to see Main Street," she said. "A thriving, charming Main Street is the foundation of a community."

Allen said every business owner should take pride in their own business and in Main Street.

"The heartbeat of Chickasha is Main Street," she said. "Everyone benefits from an energetic Main Street.

She Chickasha has a "good skeleton" for a thriving Main Street but the community needs to offer more dining, shopping and entertainment options in the district. She encouraged business owners to look opening second locations in the Main Street area.

"I am asking everyone to be a "foot soldier" for Main Street," Allen said. "When dollars are spent here, it benefits all of us. This a huge movement we all need to get behind."

She ended her presentation by outling the membership levels and benefits of supporting Main Street and passed out some informational flyers.

The meeting ended with recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
